When I kill Alastor, and the movie comes, my game freezes.

I can't get past this and play on. What do I do? There's certainly some minor scratches on the DVD, but absolutely not enough to cause this. Even my 7.5 year old Red Alert CD still runs.

I tried a no-CD thing to see if it was the problem. I got past it (to City on the Water) but now I get some crap with the savegames instead, so I have to reinstall (again)...

It worked fine in April, I just don't get it...

Skip the movie with ESC.

DON'T use the "CD-thing"...it was for 1.0 and you repatched some parts...repatching with 1.61 and so on

I can't skip the movie, as soon as I click away the stat results from the Alastor battle (and get the card), it changes a frame and then freezes.

The no-CD is for 1.64.

I managed to fix the savegame problem by removing a file in one of the savegame folders, though.

There is no need for this no-CD-fix...and it cause problems

You could try renaming the \Painkiller\Data\Movies to
\Painkiller\Data\MoviesX to see if its the movie thats causing the problem.

You could also rename the .bik file instead. It should be
end_of_chapter_4.bik, (I think!)

Thank you. I'll try that. So I can actually see the movies outside of the game? It'll not be as seamless as watching the game, but I don't want to miss out.

Edit: I can watch the videos in Windows. Though not in full screen mode. Is there a way to make a command path to force 1024x768?

And do you know if - ingame - the movies are loaded from the harddrive, or the DVD? The HDD seems logical, but that doesn't explain why End Chapter 4 works in Windows but freezes my computer ingame.

Also, it does not explain the occasional stuttering I get.

Now I renamed the end chapter 4 movie, and when I killed Alastor it just skipped to the next mission menu, so it was the movie's fault, and thus not my DVD.

The question remains: why does the movie play in Windows, but not ingame?

That's weird.

It happens after Lucifer too...

I've tried updating from ForceWare 77.30 to 77.72, but that didn't help either.

Do I really have to revert to an old version? Because it'll be one **** of a hassle.

Go and DL RAD Video Tools from http://www.radgametools.com/bnkdown.htm

After installing you can choose you bik file and with Advanced play...

I guess it's your BINKW32.DLL in your .../Painkiller/Bin/... folder that's maybe corrupt.

Yes, I can view the movies with Bink player, but not in 1024x768 fullscreen, even though I selected it as per your image.

What happens if I delete the BINKW32.DLL?

As for playing, I renamed the entire Movies folder, and I can now play. I'll have to watch the movies manually for now.

But perhaps I can find the BINKW32.DLL on the DVD and copy it over? Unless it changed with the patches?

Then you will get a failure inside the game...you can overwrite it with a right one.

If you do the selection like above then you only have to double click any bik files still you change it back to defaults...

Yes - you can copy it from the DVD. (Patches are nor involved) Maybe you'll get a copy failure caused by a corrupted DVD? If this'll happen then I can give you the right one...

Alright, I copied the file from the DVD and pasted it in the Bin folder.

For some reason, it was of a different size than the one I had.

Still same problem.

And this movie problem thing didn't happen when I first played it in April.

One thing: the "outro" movie, is that the true ending that comes when you finish Trauma? Not "booh outro" but just "outro". Because I'm playing Trauma now and I'd like to see that movie when I'm done.

After the "end chapter 5" film and credits, you hop back into the menu right (Insomnia to Nightmare)? I want to recreate the regular playing experience as closely as possible, watching the correct films in the correct order.

Binkdll (http://www.shuto.ch/users/adre/aGe/Varus/BINKW32.ZIP)
test this...it's from my BIN... (I'll delete it when you DLed it)

Yes - outro is the last...

I tried it, and it didn't work. Thanks for the effort though. I'll do it the manual way, I suppose. :)
