"Ruins" question from new player

I believe its called Ruins, its a big dude with a hammer, is there a secret to beating him or just shooting. Just let me know which one, I'll try to figure out the secret if there is one. I noticed his hammer seems to turn to "stone" when you shoot just the hammer, is that it.

Yes. He's invulnerable while he has the hammer. After you shoot his hammer enough it will disappear and you can shoot him.

BTW, the red ring around the compass at the top of the screen indicates the health of boss monsters.

It takes a surprisingly long time to dispatch his hammer, at least *I* think so. The red ring around the compass will first track the health of the hammer. That's really really useful--I didn't notice that the first few times I played this level. After the hammer is gone the red ring starts over and indicates the health of the Boss.

Use the minigun against the hammer, and then the shotgun (with cards) against his body.

Minigun vs. Hammer is a good trick. Also, even if you do get 'bounced,' keep shooting!

I myself dont have a problem beating him.
But what I cant do is stay alive long enough to do the 5 * challange.
