I decided to reinstall Ultima IX since it was about 2 to 3 years ahead of the hardware at the time it was released. It ran so slow on my system in 2000. The castle area in Brittania was the worst.
Today, it finally runs at a smooth clip with all the graphics turned up on my Athlon64. If anyone has access to this game, here are a few patches that will make the game better:
1.18f Patch: http://aiera.timeimmortal.net/downloads/u9patch118.exe
1.19f Patch: http://aiera.timeimmortal.net/downloads/u9ver119.zip (must install 1.18f patch first)
Monster & Economy Patch: http://aiera.timeimmortal.net/downloads/u9econmonster.zip
So far, I'm having a good time with it and it even supports up to 1280 X 1024 /32 graphics resolution.
(One thing to remember: set the graphics for 16bit, mip-mapping on, and the HIGH graphics level. It will say something like it doesn't recommend HIGH setting with 16 bit graphics...lol. Just ignore and do it anyway. Today's graphics cards kick butt compared to the ones in year 2000. Also, you will have to find the Journal in the game first before you can turn all the graphics options to max. That's just the way the intro goes.)
