need help in monastery

I'm stuck in the monastery :(
I just collected the glowing star in the tunnel (where you need to jump over and back) went back outside, crossed the bridge killed the lone skelleton and proceded to the checkpoint. I then cont. down the staircase and killed the witches that spawn from the coffins +everything else. now i'm stuck, I read some walkthroughs in where they said that after killing everything you were to proceed to the checkpoint, however I don't see one and the arrow is not working :(
please help asap!

Unfortunately, often the checkpoint system in Monastery gets confused. Usually after clearing that room, the next checkpoint should appear at the stairs where you came down before:

The barrier that blocked the way further down is gone and you can proceed to the next floor. If this didn't work for you and you're sure you killed all enemies in that room, then most likely you have to replay the level :(. You may also try to start from a previous checkpoint save or quicksave, but you may come across the same bug then.

i actually tried to reload to the checkpoint before (where i got the glowing star) twice before, but same prob :( so i'm pretty stomped!
