leningrad, help!

I played through painkiller on nightmare mode (btw the instructions say I have to unlock nightmare, but both nightmare and trauma were available from the start, is this normal?) without much trouble, and I've finished BOOH up to leningrad on nightmare too, also without TOO much trouble. dead city, in fact, was rather easy (other then the fat guys throwing cars).

but then I loaded up leningrad and.. WTH? after ~20 tries AND using my golden card (not joking, I wish I was) I managed to barely get to the first checkpoint with ~20 health remaning but this is (obviously) not enough to go on with, I die a few seconds after the next group of monsters attacks.

I can't figure out how to play this level, the guys do decent damage with the machineguns, throw grenades, there are *3* tanks, and to top it off an airplane bombs you too :eek:.

If I go for the soldiers, the tanks do enough damage with the splash from the cannons to take my life down even if I avoid the shells (which is hard enough when your trying to aim at the soldiers). if I ignore the soldiers and charge the tanks (they don't seem to shoot if you are close) I get whittled down by the machineguns and occasional grenade that goes off too close and I end up low on health when its all over with. If I just run around trying to avoid getting killed and shooting when I can, I just end up dead with alot of enemies. If the whole level is like this, I can't imagine ever finishing it.

anyone have any tips for this level? am I doing something wrong? Its become frustrating to the point where I am about to just restart BOOH on insomnia (or maybe even daydream :rolleyes: ). I'm using the vitality black card (base life is 150) and the 8x haste gold card, I don't have any gold to place any other ones (It wiped my gold but gave me all the cards from painkiller besides the forest one when I started BOOH, even though I picked to save the info. not sure if this is normal either). I could go back and replay some of the levels to get more gold for cards but I'd rather not, to be honest.

I just can't belive how much harder this level is then any other level before it. the only thing that even came remotely close was docks and even that was not NEARLY this bad.

Nevermind, I finally finished this level after I watched a video of someone doing the first part - I was running forward too soon and triggering way too many spawns at once.

still a pretty difficult level, but also pretty fun. thankfully I got demon form right at the end when you had to kill all 3 tanks at once :D tons of hidden goodies all over too.

yes it is a pretty tough level and alot of people beleive it to be the hardest one in BOOH
but the thing in PK when it comes to dealing with enemies is the spot u chose to fight with others, it counts in some levels more than others, particularly in the level "forest"

Leningrad gets my vote for the single toughest level in the whole game, PK and BooH. Geez, freakin' ALASTOR'S easy, compared to that plaza...

remember when frag got to this level ? there were "ways and strategies" being written in the forums about it, but he somehow came up with a nice one, the altar one, that he'd jump on them one by one (bonny hopping around) while doing a little spark to ur feet by flamethrower whe "on" the altar, this would be enough to get the stone guys up and running, at the end there were 3 guys on the field in only 30 sec or so . pretty neat really.

after this, the level became the warmup round for me, lol

Don't forget that was a suggestion from birty about the flamethrower on the feet. I just took it a bit further engaging two or three Golems at once and nicnaming it "toasting your toes with the torch."

I'm sure you remember how upset I was when I first sought help on the Shadowland level Pact, little did I know it would become so easy.

Yes stealth is definately possible, and your friend in Leningrad. Quite often the phrase "Fools rush in" comes to mind playing that level.:D

3d designing? errr not really, I mess around with POV-ray sometimes but I'm not much past the floating ball with 1 lightsource and no background level :p

varus's Hills came out, i havent had a chance to play it yet (just as PK itself kind of) but i saw the video, looks really good, but the thing i cant wait to experience is the sound track he's chosen for the level, is it nice ? it sure is

I'm still making videos, I needed to take a break from PK/BOoH for a while, so I've made several Far Cry videos.

For the last week or so I haven't made any at all, because I was trying to get both Fraps and Game Cam to record sound, but the best I can do is get Fraps to record sound slightly out of sync, which is of no use to me.

The last 3 or 4 days I've been sampling some great custom sp maps of Far Cry by Matto (Matthias Otto) and some others, reallly creative and beautifull stuff.

Just now I finished downloading and playing through the FEAR demo a few times, kind of short, but what spectacular effects. Everything from the wall markings to the blood to the ragdoll, etc, is very realistic. The weapons are also very cool, though the demo did not play as smoothly as I'd hoped, a bit hitchy in spots.

It's Seafair here in Seattle, so I can hear the Blue Angel Navy jets flying about to celebrate the annual hydroplane races as I type this.

Let me know if you want to see any of the Far Cry vids, I don't know if you like that game or not. I have a filepage with Filefront to host the longer ones.

I think what's deceiving about it, is that there's a fine line between them charging and surrounding you, and lurking elsewhere, depending on what you do, where you go, and your timing.

When I first played it with stealth it took a little over an hour, even with a fair amount of gibbing, then I realized it can be played well under half that time with stealth, and little or no damage sustained, and still get over $2000 in total gold.

Wow, that must be an awesome view from there. It's amazing the risks the pilots take just to entertain and inspire the public isn't it? I love to get close and see the vapor trails off the wings from the incredible G forces they endure.

Very sorry that I forgot that Pact, but it sounds like you have a much better memory than mine too.

You want hang gliding, how about 4 video shorts with hanglider sniping action, 3 full level videos of Boat, Archive, and Dam, along with snipits from Rebelion and a few humorous outakes sound? There's also a video of the water part of River with some wild Live and Let Die boat antics too.

BTW, if you have not sampled the many custom sp maps available for Far Cry, I highly recommend those by Lance, and Matto, especially Matto 3, it's a beautifull work of art, and has a cool ending with great music.

Lance is from BC Canada, just north of me, his maps are Devils Coast, and Missile Attack. Matto (Matthias Otto) is from Germany I think, and his maps are Matto, Matto 2, and Matto 3. He will soon be releasing Matto 4, and recently posted some screenshots of it on the Ubi Far Cry forum under the Mods and Maps board.

Both of these guys are really cool, I've spoken by email to them.

']i succeeded seeing one of ur vids, the joke one, it was hilarious ! how did u get all that ? .The sliding along the ground in a sitting position and sitting on an invisible chair was just an odd little thing that sometimes happens with Far Cry, but only that one merc. Many of them periodically scratch themselves and such, it adds realism to the game, I just pieced together bits of video and audio that's all. It did take a long time though, there are about 16 different audio tracks from the game's dialouge just in that short clip. There's another humor one I did harrassing one of the wild pigs on the island, it's called Grunt Talk & Gauntlet Outtakes.

Actually, that site is totally free, there is the option to subscribe to faster servers for faster ad free downloads, but it's not necessary. I don't think you even have to register to DL. Just click the Download Now button, after selecting one of the files highlighted in blue, and it will take you to a list of servers.

The first list of servers shown at the top of the page are "Hosted Files Free Public Servers!", and then just click on one of those. The next page will say, "Your download is ready. Filefront is absolutely the best free file hosting service I've ever seen. They'll host as many files as you like, up to 1Gig in size! Not to mention you get your own filepage, and can put a custom 750x85 banner at the top, and categorize and describe each file with detailed descriptions.
