View Full Version : Any cheat protection?

Hello, I just bought the gold version of painkiller, I played for a few days on servers and didn't notice anyone cheating until today I played a guy in a 1vs1 server who was clearly cheating.
Is there anything I need to look for in the server listings to see if the server has any protection on it? I don't want to play on any servers that are not protected, the guy I played today was ridiculous, even though I beat him up pretty good it wasn't really any fun knowing that there were cheats available and that people are actually using them.

Painkiller has virtually no cheat protection at all. Maybe you should take a look at this:

http://www.dreamcatchergames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20394&page=4&pp=10#post144603

Especially video number 3. Although I never released that to public, it clearly shows the lack of any cheatprotection, since this video was recorded on a server with the highest possible security settings.

In the meanwhile, the makers of PK++ added some sort of cheat protection (I was told), but I never looked at it in detail, so I can't say how good it is. You should use PK++ in any case for multiplayer, also because it adds some nice features.

By the way... what makes you sure your opponent cheated? There are some really mad skilled players out there and I often so accusations of cheating where it surely didn't apply (no offense intended).

I agree because:
- Items like Armor = no Cheat,
- Hardware & low Ping = no Cheat,
- and Skill = no Cheat.

I think noone is cheating.

For Your next Post i will see the Name, the Ping, the Map & the Scores of the Match (press F12 & post the Screenshot). I´m 99% sure noone is cheating.

I have been playing online FPS's since around 95 and playing competitively since 97, I know a cheater when I see one and there is at least one online aimbot user in painkiller.
I am new to this game but aimbots are [for the most part] all the same, because I am new to this game I have (had) no clue as to how to take screenshots or make demos, I don't even remember the cowards name for that matter.
I'm not going to waste my time detailing the incident, after all, even though the coward was cheating I still beat him up pretty good, in fact he only fragged me one time, I can adapt to aimbots pretty fast but I would really rather stay away from them which is why I came here asking questions about cheat protection.

Thanks for the kind reply, nice vids, I will search out PK++ for the extra features, I was in a map but I am not sure of the name because they are new to me, this person was near the middle with the rocket/mini, other than his crosshair following me everywhere I went he hardly would move at all, just stood there, as soon as I would come around a corner his mini was on me, if I came around another corner his mini was on me, it was locked on me no matter what I did so, no matter how fast I was hopping around corners it was on me and didn't miss, clearly an aimbot.

I ask more:
Do You use orginal Painkiller? Or do You use PK++?
Server was PK++ Server? Or original PK Server?
Is Trisexual a FPS Game?
Original PK & PK++ is buggy, the Mix will crash 1Day....

Well I tried to get PK++ but unfortunately the only place I found it for download wanted me to register, I don't register just to download a file, that's just plain stupid.
I did get a good 1vs1 match in last night but it doesn't seem there are many people playing online which is too bad since it seems this game has some real potential.

Hi

Well, my experience is a fraction of yours but I have noticed this behaviour with the bots. I often get shot by a bot and when I respawn - BAM - the bot has me within a nanosecond, I hop into a new area - BAM - the bot has shot me before I was a millimeter over the threshold.

Also, like Kalme says, there are some incredible players out there who are simply amazing. I have spectated and watched players clean an area in seconds, then move on, clean the next area - all without getting hit! The buggers!

However, I have never experienced the symptoms you describe, except in bots. But I'm sure you recognise a bot.

Never thought of that, lol. It could indeed be a bot. Their movement is bad and you can beat them, but usually they aim like http://img105.imageshack.us/img105/2773/text5kg.png. They always have a fake ping of 35-40. If you are not sure (bots play with a lot of different names), try to talk to him. "bot" is a keyword for them, so type in anything containing that word ("Are you a bot?" or just "bot"). The answer always will be "bot?".

in pk the skill difference can be HUGE
I played against people that told me they play pk for a month and beat them 50:-2 in 15 minutes.
yesterday I met SteLam and his mate having a trainmatch- it was unbelievable. and I tell you that he beat me just the way I beated the other guy...

but if you were able to kill your oponent easily althought he wasn't moving it was a bot.

welll i guess then we need to see all you fookers on the servers more then huh?(pretty much anytime after 7-8pm central USA time or later you can find us rockin the servers ;)),...and to you people that only play from starting a server onyour own pc,...stop it!,..nobody wants to play on your cr@ppy pc through your cr@ppy connection,..(unless your sporting an AMD opteron or an intel xenon with 2 gigs of high performance ram and a t1 connection or greater),...so use the dedicated's,..the most commonly used are il8,il7 and box of vox or whatever its called but that server is mostly laggy and crashes quite frequently

I went through all my old stuff last week. Lost a lot of screenshots and other things I wanted to keep in the last months, but somehow this one survived :D.

agree
I used to play with Texxxxx and his som DemonSim0n (do you know them?) sometimes but it is always hard to find a proper server. if we played on a US server I had a ping of 160 and if we played on a german one they had- and that is not very good...

but I will keep my eyes open and may join your servers one day... no matter with which ping- it is fun!

BTW that map (dm_5quid01) is great imo. very quake-like, very confusing and difficult to play. just like dm_absinthe... I them. but you are right, they are 1on1 maps and in ffa they may be no so funny.

BTW (again) hey kalme we have to have a game again! or are you not interested?
