Hello everyone.
Take a look at these scrennshots taken during a tour of two possible forthcoming MP maps. PeTja is thinking about developing the SP maps Docks and Old Monastery into MP versions, and invited Str1ker and me to 'test' them and share the experience. It was so cool being able to rocket-jump and get on the roofs of these buildings. Docks was awesome - we were stood on the highest part of the Lumbago - looking down its funnel...
Monastery was very cool also

I fixed the weak Jumppad, placed 3 new PlayerRespawns & closed the Windows (on the Top) in DM_Monastery.
Thank You for Youīr Help oncemore. (Never touch a running System!)
AND:If DM_Monastery is done, the "3 Fishermanīs" are focusing on DM_Docks...:D

hey guys- did not post here for long; very long.
but this is a nice thread and I should get used to follow this board too...
these maps will be magehuge! dm_cursed is nothing against it... but what do I tell you?! you are the SP experts - I am not...
a pretty long time ago PeTjA started to make some MP out of Forrest and also created dm_UnseenReloaded which was pretty cool and I am glad that he started again to work in the PainEd.
I am waiting for the results and I am happy that he chose me to be one of the guys that can test them previously...

PeTjA, that was the reason why You contacted me yesterday? These are those maps You want to send to me? I'm very curious! :) Could You give us links or only ICQ or MSN transmission work? I prefer MSN, but I can sign into my ICQ too, for these maps. Also, a big respect for all these and the earlier maps: I didn't know about You were the Creator of these adaptations... :) WOW! BTW, yesterday I saw Your server, but of course, I couldn't join without the maps ("DM_Monastery1" was inside, I saw)... :)
Blood, nice pictures, and I'm downloading the video too... ;) LOL, nice work, Str1ker! I loved the beach-part, even if it was a bit "childish", LOL! :D :D

What kind of mp mode could you play on a level like docks or monastery? These are HUGE and the only thing I can think of is CTF, but they don't seem to be very adequate for that?
Maybe I should also think about releasing a new PM version (without waiting for PCF's new patch). You know the one where singleplayer rocketjumps are enabled :D.

Why wouldn't it/they work for PvP? Docks seems ideal for that - spawn on opposite ends, have weapons/ammo/armor nearby; gear up, and go hunting...

I thought about that too
PeTjA had the idea to use that the wrack within Docks and place a CTF arena there. but the whole area? no way imo!
the same for monastery. maybe the monastery itself could be a place but the whole place? with all that underground stuff... I couldn't imagine that...

First:
Its usefull to see, wich Maps work online, wich not. DM_Cemetry dont, DM_Cathedral works & so on ...
For DM & CTF Maps we will need diff. Itemplacing.
I like the Idea of 1v1 CTF_Wrack in the Docks & the Idea of a big CTF_Dock.
I would like to see Str1ker is making a CTF_Wrack,
during im focusing on DM_Monastery & later (i hope soon) DM_Docks.
DM_Cathedral will look nice to.
For DM_Monastery (or other Maps) PM me, but the other Maps have just 1 PlayerRespawn & the SP-Items to see work online or not. But if i test later these Maps, You can use this Version to join my Server.

Of course it would technically work. But these maps are huge. Which means
a) it takes a long time until you'll eventually face your enemy (this is already a problem for 1 on 1 on (smaller) maps like Illuminati.
b) too much indoor ramified parts make escaping easier while large outdoor areas make it harder, so most of the battles will happen indoor and a lot of fights won't end with a frag. This gets worse due to the sheer size and the possibility to max out on health/armor easily and avoiding the enemy at the same time => you can't set your enemy under pressure and hunt him down.
c) those maps have a lot of dead ends or even one-way streets (docks down to the ship). Multiplayer maps need a lot of "flow", possibilities to get to an area through different ways which is not possible here.
d) also, if there are only spawnpoints at the opposite ends of a map, spawnr*ping will be even worse than in the original PK. Imagine three players on that map, two waiting on each spawnpoint :D.

just cut off some of the areas that feel unecessary to give the level more direction like we did with opera,babel and courtyard,....but if there is a way to "delete" out the unwanted sections(there wasnt a way when shadow and i did those maps) im sure that would help suit even more

You're right. But of course the problem STILL is that we can't delete or modify parts of the geometry :-/.

To make a SP-Map to a MP-Map is verry easy (C1L1 to DM) Or a DM-Map to CTF or PCF or whatever. Im wrong?
So to place the Items & the Playerrespawns = THE BALLANCING, is the the only Problem!!!!
We must know the Maps, must have Ideas, we must test the Maps, we must remove some Ideas, we must test the Maps again (& again & again ...)!!! Im wrong?
I dont like to close the Maps. If there are no Items, i dont go there. But i allready did it, like in CTF_Forest ... NVM
I like to close them if i can fall in the Goemetrie. In the Restrooms should every Player be free to do whatever he wants to do. (To camp, to hide, to smoke a Joint, to eat, u know....) Im maybe wrong!:D

I think this is what I meant about the Docks - I was thinking more of the railroad yard area, minus the elevator ride down at the beginning (wasn't too clear on that...sorry).

im open to check out levels anytime,throw me a p.m. or catch me on xfire(at the obvious name,..heh)just make it runable with a few random spawn points and a few weapons to get a feel(rocket launcher w/ infinate ammo,shotgun,etc),and id love to help out with the weapon/item/spawn point layout's if thats a welcome idea as well

I think I am able to make that Itemplacement stuff but somebody needs to tell me how to limit the level and how to create playerspawns correctly...

While we were looking around the second version of Monastery, after PeTja had placed some items, PeTja was stood by some Gold Armour. Because we were in TDM mode, the armour was not used and so we saw a hilarious effect. Here is PeTja wearing a Gold Armour diaper...

Y do I spawn somewhere else then I placed the PRS (Playerrespawn)?
Answer:
Sometimes the "o.Points[1]" screwed up, they must be the same, like the "o.Pos". with only one Difference: They have one more Number wich shows the Direction of Ur PRS will be facing at (0-6.27).
0 is like North and 3,135 is like South & so on.
Here a Example from a PSR taken from my DM_Monastery (see I removed the useless Numbers so it looks nicer & the Game is still working fine without them)
o.Points[1] = VectorA:New(0,27.75,-81.5,0)
o.BaseObj = "PlayerRespawn.CArea"
o.Pos = Vector:New(0,27.75,-81.5)

Why crashes the Dedicatet Server, when i try to load DM_Cemetery?
Can someone resave the Map to DM & test it? Or PM me to get a Preview.
Is it because some of the Walls should explode & cant?
