Okay, so its only the demo...
But seriously... I downloaded the demo in hopes to get a feel for the game.
BIG mistake, there.. one sale, lost forever..
The interface is clunky as all get out, documentation non-existent (yes, its a demo, but a seriously written 'read me' file MIGHT have been a good idea).
So after several aborted attempts and judicious study of the 'options' menu, I can finally get going a little.. But there's no direction in the game, no inherent clues as to where to go, what to do. The dialogue with the man at the campfire and the guard at the locked-up town introductes the storyline very well, but little of anything else.
even in normal mode, the better part of my playing time is absorbed in sheer survival... battling nearly endless wandering monsters (so much for 'normal'). None of them provide a clue as to direction, so essentially it would appear to this rookie that the entire focus of this game is to brainlessly wander this huge empty world, with no direction, no goal, no guide, no clues fighting never-ending battles against goblins, rats, skeletons, and wolves, all the while hoping for even the TINIEST shred of direction?
I don't think so.. I don't really think so.
Beautiful landscape (though the never ending night is a tad annoying), very nice combat interface. The spell interface is clunky and confusing at best, and tough to activate in battle. Plus, once the spell interface is up, I still haven't been able to figure out how to switch back to melee so I can survive the never-ending hordes of thousands of rats and wolves...
survivable? Yes. playable? Yes.
Fun? Umm... No....
If i wanted to wander around aimlessly forever fighting never ending hordes of villians, I'd visit Harlem at night, thank you very much....
<sighs>
Yes, I'm new. Yes, it's a demo, and an undocumented one.
But I've seen enough that I'm scared away from this title, for good. There's just too many more better-prepared, better thought out games out there.
Recreation this is not. Enjoyable, it is not.
