Hi. I upgraded to a dual core, and now the game plays way too fast. I have a 4200x2 AMD, 2 gig memory, 7800gtx that I installed all at the same time, but I think it must be the dual core that's giving me the trouble. Is there a way to slow this thing down? I'm also at 1600x1200 with everything turned on.
Thanks for your help!

I'm having the same problem after having installed a dual core AMD and 7800GT. Have you found a resolution yet?

This is a well known bug of the AMD X2 (in other games too...)

2 ways:
- disable in processes, task-manager, for the painkiller.exe (right click) the second CPU
- install the fixing tool for free

Where do I find Task Manager in Windows XP?
How do I disable one of my two CPU's?
Doesent it kinda defeat the purpous of buying 2 CPU's if I have to shut one off to be able to play a game?

@mysonsfather - have you installed the AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual Core Processor Driver for Windows XP (from here) and the AMD Dual-Core Optimizer (from here). If this doesn't work, try the instructions I have listed out for stonetrees below:

@stonetrees - You'll need to have Painkiller loaded in memory before starting - start Painkiller and switch back to the desktop and follow these instructions: From the desktop, press Control+Alt+Del at the same time or right-click on the taskbar and choose "Task Manager" from the pop-up speed menu. Once you're in TaskMan (under Applications - first tab), locate Painkiller and right-click on the entry. Choose "Afinity...", uncheck one of the cores and press the OK button. Switch back to Painkiller and play.

Only if you use a DualCore from AMD with not updated drivers (because the older drivers have a bug)

besides of this...mostly all games till now can use the second core...but you can burn a CD in the background during fragging... :D ;)

Thank you so much for answering my distress call.
OK, I right clicked on Painkiller in Task Manager. There is no Afinity, only:
Switch to
Bring to front
Minimize
Maximize
Cascade
Tile Horizontally
Tile Vertically
End task
Go to Process

Whoops... I meant to say "under Processes - second tab" not "under Applications - first tab". I haven't had a need to do this for a long time so I was a little rusty plus I'm using a single core Intel P4 1.7GHz machine here at work... sorry :(

Easiest way to fix this is getting a little program called WinlauncherXP http://www.majorgeeks.com/WinLauncherXP_d870.html
Really easy to use and works like a charm.
