Post your sytem specs, please. We need to know what you've got.
I needed to format the computer.
What do you mean by this?
Also, welcome to the boards, and don't worry about your English. We've got people here who's native language is English, and we don't understand them half the time.

He meant formating the HDD...
I guess you have a problem with your CD (scratched...?) or something near it.
Try to copy your CD to HD or make an image of it and mount it...installing/playing from there.

Which version of the game (regular retail CD's, Gold, etc.) do you have?

This is the exact same problem I had. It is most likely not related to a scratched or dirty disc. It is the setup program that acts weirdly.
Do you know of a computer that installs Painkiller successfully without this problem appearing? If so, the first thing you need to do is to put the problematic disc into the drive of the computer, then you burn the contents of the disc onto another one.
Use the burned disc instead of the normal disc to install the game.
If you donīt know of any computer you can use to do this, then you will have to contact DreamCatcher technical support for more advanced help.

and BTW:
Asus A8N-SLI
Isn't it a board with the nVidia-Hardware-Firewall, is it? If you have installed those drivers then you have to deinstall them otherwise the game won't run.
@Bjossi
Don't forget that his PK runs fine before reformating the HDD later. That's why I think the cause is the CD. But the solution at least is right ... burn baby, burn. :D
