I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this game and it's expansion pack, but i am dying for more, with that kille rmetal music, and AWESOME graphics!! This was my first true PC FPSHMUP that i fell in love with. I really dug Quake III Arena, but this game just captured my heart, and i loved the theme. I have not seen ANY news on a sequel/expansion, and i, as well as the rest of the rest of you heavenly assassins, AM DYING FOR A SEQUEL! Anyone heard anything?! Screw the XBOX version, but i AM glad people who don't ahve PC's will get a taste of what we all love. Too bad it won't look as good. Post any newsbits you might have read, or heard at trade shows. Thanks!

If you have tasted the PK, have you played the multiplayer?
Becasue if you played Q3, that means MP, and that means you'll love PK MP too.
I have spent LOTS of hours by Q3, but PK is even more "stinging".

At this point, considering that the game is not terribly well known, a full sequel is probably not likely (dammit!).

I'll second that! I stumbled across PK while I was waiting for D3 (terrible) and/or H-L2 (brilliant) to arrive. I expected a Serious Sam-alike to fill the gap. I soon realised it was far better than that.
The only game magazine I intermittently bother with is a UK publication called PC Zone. It used to run a "top 10" in different genres. PK never made it into the FPS chart, though it's a far better game than many that did.
I bought BooH in a general computing shop rather than a games store. The guy who served me was obviously a FPS fan but he'd never heard of PK, even though it was on his shelf!
And why DC didn't capitalize on it's use on the CPL World Tour, I'll never know. I'm not a console gamer but we can but hope it's release on the NinPlayBox (or whatever) will give it a new impetus and prompt PK2 from PCF.

P.S. This isn't written with rose-tinted shades! PK is not my all-time favourite game. It just deserves far wider recognition than it's had - G

Well, if im right, PK sold quickly 300.000 copies when it came out...so its not so unknown (PCF would have not done an exp pack if it was not successful)

Thats awesome news gang! Thank YOU! that information was great to hear. I stumbled across it by accident as well. I never bought a pc game like this( i bought Virtual Springfield, and Sinistar when i first got my pc in 2000), and i was looking through the PC games section to buy a game for my ex fiance', and i saw this game with the name "Painkiller", the title of a Judas Priest cd which i love, and i thought, "Hey....this might be a cool game." so i picked it up. When i saw the graphics i **** my pants. I was like "WHOA!", and i kept drooling over the graphics, and reading the storyline for it, and i HAD to have it. I was kinda broke, but i wasn't leaving that store without it!!!! Thank God i didn't. I love this game so much!
After i had already had the game, i was flipping through a few months previous Maxim Magazine issue i hadn't read, while at work, and it was given a 5 out of 5 on their review, so i knew not only i loved it, but lots of others had as well.

How i have got PK: everybody was waiting for doom3, but until my friend had the chance to get it (2004.06) he found a pirate painkillergame - he said that the bosses in this game are the bigest ever seen and that graphics own all other games, so installed it.

A FPS that will never be beaten is System Shock 2. HalfLife 2 didnīt, Doom 3 didnīt, Serious Sam didnīt, Painkiller didnīt, need I say more?
But Painkiller, got it by accident aswell. Perhaps accidents are the most buyers of the game? :p

System Shock 2? Will have to check this out. painkiller might not be a Doom or Quake, even Half Life killer, but for mindless blasting, with a decent story, and graphics and music that rate high, you cannot go wrong at all with Painkiller and its expansion pack.
I am downloading Serious Sam 2, and was wondering if this game is fun. Looks pretty cool, but still shots never do a game justice.

Some of the veteran posters here have heard my story before, but we're on the topic so...
I had just doubled my ram in anticipation of Doom3 and wanted something to quickly test it, so I downloaded the PK demo.
I played the demo through in one sitting.
The next day I went out and bought the game.
When I eventually bought Doom3, I was pretty dissappointed, and went back to PK.
I can't compare it to HalfLife2 though, as I have never played it. I refuse to support or in any way deal with Steam!

Errm, Painkiller did fairly well. It wasn't HL2 or Doom 3, but it sold decently, and just about every gamer I've ever talked to has played it.
True overlooked classics are games like Blood, System Shock 1&2, and Undying (although the SS games are starting to get the credit they deserve, largely thanks to the rising popularity of the Deus Ex series). Just about every gamer knows Painkiller; many don't know Blood, most don't know Undying, and they didn't know SS2 until fairly recently.

"Blood"? Is that an old DOS game? If so i HAVE that game.... i never checked it out yet though. A guy at work 3 years ago came by my house one day out of the blue, and gave me ALL his old DOS games, and that was one of them. I did try it one day to test out DOSBOX, but i got the title screen, and that was it. Me and my buddy probably didn't have DOSBOX configured right on XP. Now i must go check out pictures of it on the net to see what i missed.

It certainly is and it was excellent in its time. Your basic weapon is a pitchfork. The flare gun sets your opponents on fire and they run around screaming "I burn! I burn!". You get to kill some completely innocent mimes. And a funfair game consists of you kicking decapitated heads at targets. I loved it.
Of course, the graphics will be dated but if you just like gameplay, try and get it working. However, do not get it confused with Blood 2 : The Chosen. This was the follow up and the first release on the LithTech engine. The graphics were good but it was buggy and ridiculously hard. Don't bother.
I hope you enjoy it.

Jammaniaclord- You'll be better off if you download the version here:
http://www.abandonia.com/games/en/103/Blood.htm
Then move the movie files from the disk it comes on into the "movies" folder, and then follow the directions here:http://buildxp.deathmask.net/index2.php , except when setting the mixing rate, set it to 22 khz instead of 11.
Even with Dosbox, the game won't work properly without some tweaking (which the above links will take care of) thanks to the sound used in the Build engine. The version of it I linked to in the first link doesn't need Dosbox to run, given you follow the instructions in the second link, and is perfectly compatable with XP if you follow those instructions; most versions don't get along so well with XP.
Greybeard: It's "It burns! It burns!", not "I burn! I burn!". Get it right :P
Blood 2... I'm still trying to convince myself that THAT never happened. Even if you're like me and the difficulty isn't too hard (it's really not any harder than the original on the harder skill levels, and the cultists are actually quite a bit weaker), it still sucks by comparison. It's utterly soulless.

Home Of The Underdogs....hehehehheheheh... great site. I thought they only had demo's of games though, not full releases.
System Shock 2 i am getting off a torrent site. I hate to do that, but i am getting ready to move, and i have NO time to go searching for it, nor do i ahve the money to get it, even if i stayed home and Ebay-ed it. I read LOTs of great things about System Shock 2. Lots.
Rise Of The Triad was fun from what i played of it. I downloaded a ported Dreamcast version of it, and it plays decent on the system, but i am just not used to sitting in front of a tv, with a keyboard for a controller. Weird that is.
Thanks for the "Blood" links for tweaking, and running it on XP man!!! Nice to see people helping out! Thanks to all for the new FPS games i never played back in the day( so i guess they aren't new then? Heheheh.), as i like to check out on what i missed. I am still playing "Alien Versus Predator 2". Not too bad. Kinda scary. Runs really smooth on my radeon 9800 Pro 256, with 1GB Kingston PC3200 DDR in my system. "Painkiller" runs very smooth as well.
I remembered another DOS game that guy gave me, "Lawnmower Man"..............that game sucks the curls out of Carrot Tops locks man!

I don't know much about video cards, but i pray the next installment will be compatible with my Radeon 9800 Pro 256 DDR. Most likely it will take advantage of the PCI Express cards.
I wonder what the storyline will be like. Maybe they can do it from his wifes perpective, and she is in between heaven and ****, wanting to go back to her husband, and she too has a quest by God to kill the demons, and decide whether she wants to go back to life and be with her hubby, or stay on as Gods mercenary. Maybe it will be an all new character. Maybe it will be a skyscraper window cleaner who falls off his scaffolding to his death, and has to kill evil CEO's, who work in giant skyscrapers... the very same he cleaned. Weapons will be a razor edged squeegee, a windex bottle full of holy water, a lunch bucket that flaps it lid repeatedly open/closed (like pac man) to hurl at enemies and bite through them, a lazy union shop workers attitude for spouting off sorry excuses towards the enemy to kill them with laughter. starters. Outfit will be multi-pocket cover alls for storing the souls he will capture, painters cap(just because they are COOL!), for starters.
Any ideas?

I meant the design, not the storyline or the gameplay. The game looks like a serious game, it has non-cartoony looking graphics, non-cartoony looking textures/enemies/etc.

PK & BOoH Both made the list! (#'s 66 & 116) (http://files.filefront.com/Top_200_PC_Action_Games/;4426059;;/fileinfo.html)
Number 66 for PK , how appropriate, in both rating and symbolic meaning. Not that it doesn't deserve higher, it just accurately reflects that it still has a strong "cult" following.
As for never mind about the Xbox version, as stated by the author of the thread, unfortunately, the popularity of the Xbox version may dictate whether there is to be another PC release.

Absolutely agree. The PK game engine (Chaos? I can't remember) has huge potential. It's only when you play other games you realise how interactive the environment is. In Doom 3, I think you could kick the odd chair but little more. I'm playing F.E.A.R. at the moment and it's very frustrating not being able to move simple things to make barricades, set up booby-traps, help jumps et al. I can only think of H-L2 as its equal.
Varus's "Hills" has shown that you can open up the PK environment. I'd love something like "Far Cry" but with the potential of hundreds of things coming to get you! That's what I'd like "PK2" to be.

Moving the barrels is a slow and frustrating process though, they slide very grudgingly on the floor and get hung up on variations in it's surface. Once you get the knack of rolling them mastered though, it can be quite quick.
I think with F.E.A.R. they were going more for the visual effects of damaged objects and bodies, and the use of the weapons themselves as booby traps. It's alot quicker to take note of what type of grenades are stashed nearby, and make use of that type knowing you will be able to resupply, vs piling up crates, barrels, etc. It's also more realistic, as the enemy AI is too good to allow you the time to set traps. They truely are massed in every area of approach expecting your arrival, as they should be.
I find the proximity mines and remote charge grenades to be fun to play with, although they don't toss very far.

PKEuro, InPainkiller.de, Painkiller.pl, PK Arena, Dark's Corner, Hall Of Pain, kalme's Asylum - all from the Continent (and thanks, guys!). I have a lot of trouble imagining what PK2 might look like. The graphics of PK1 et al stand up remarkably well even 4 years on. If you didn't have the ludicrous number of enemies, it wouldn't be PK. Similarly, without the PK weapon (Cube, for OD players :)) and outrageous fire power, it wouldn't be right. Having just played the latest FEAR expansion, four enemies at a time and an assault rifle just wouldn't work for a game with "Painkiller" in its title.
A stronger, more cohesive storyline might be nice but otherwise I can't imagine how the game wouldn't be more of the same. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing. Any thoughts?

I don't think any other game developer could craft the magic PCF created in the first place with PK and BooH. Don't get me wrong, i'd absolutely LOVE a sequel to Painkiller, but i'd rather not want one if it's not going to be at least on the original game's level. I don't want another Overdose, which obviously serves only the purpose of continuation without managing to capture the pure twisted FUN that the original Painkiller was. Yes, it started off as a community mod, yes, it was made by fans of the game just like me and every other one out there etc etc, but it just doesn't match up to the standarts set by the good old PK.
I tried not to get myself too started on Overdose and my disappointment with it, but i guess it's inevitable, since it's more or less playing the role of a PK2 (at least the only sequel to PK that we're ever gonna get most probably), so, my opinion stands. In fewer words - i'd rather NOT have PK2 at all, than be disappointed again when some third-grade-*** game developer thinks they can sketch up some quick crap in a couple of months and take advantage (the money) of the real PK fans out there who'd give a kidney to see their favourite game continued, but instead all they get is a quickly stacked bs with the sole purpose of making money and nothing close to resurrecting the spirit of PK.
It breaks my heart remembering what Adrian said in that interview, that DreamCatcher OWNS Painkiller and every aspect of it, and that PK2 will never be ; Or at least never by PCF..
...a voice from the darkness.....
I share a lot from what GreyBeard and Shaddy told, and I'm also quite pessimistic. I believe the game should be back to PCF for more of the innovation, creativity and artistical elements what we could notice during playing especially the original PK. I don't say others can't do it and have "no chance", but I'm very sceptic. And the publishers are maybe always the biggest killers and destroyers of amazing and exciting virtual gaming worlds and mysterious characters what some really good game developers dreamed and made to be born... :( I would like to see a PK2 because I'd like the game's storyline to be finished with something. But I'm sure I don't want a "soap", a series with 7 or more PK-games...

Mr.bglad! Very pleased to see you back and to have some DC representation on the forum :)
After I'd posted yesterday, saying I couldn't imagine how PK2 could change, it did occur to me that there is one thing that could be done to bring PK2 in line with current trends. I never suggest things that could happen to a game. It's usually a waste of time, as will this be, but since we have a DC rep aboard ... ;)
How about PK2 giving us a map of Hell or Purgatory to explore, in the manner of STALKER or some RPGs (but please keep it as a FPS!). Moving between the different areas would allow the change of style, time and place we all love. Each of these different areas could be designed in the same way as Varus' "Hills" (darn, I'm plugging it again :D), non-linear with freedom of movement. Progression through the game would require you to move through and return to the different areas. Perhaps getting some fiendish secrets (seriously missed in OD) would allow you to carry out side quests and side quests could lead to additional Tarot Cards. And you could allow changing the Tarot at any time providing you have the Gold and .... I'm getting carried away now :) . Last thought, I would love to see what the devs could come up with in the way of PK-style vehicles to travel around in  :D.
Hey, ho! Pie in the sky but I said I couldn't imagine how PK could develop. On reflection, I lied :)

Yes, PCF did the PC port of Gears of War, which as far as I know wasn't that bad a job. And don't forget that PCF split up and some of these guys formed The Farm 51 (http://www.thefarm51.com/) - for me, Necrovision probably is more of an unofficial successor to Painkiller. At least it looks like PK ;).
Please don't take this personal, but it's more than tempting... :
If it's ever to get done, it would have to be done right. Which is the reason why there hasn't been anything officially announced.
Does this imply DC finally realizes their lack of capabilities? :D
Sorry. But you are working for the wrong company.

I agree with all of you guys, painkiller 2 MUST look like the first painkiller, we want Daniel back, the original weapons (stake-gun!!!!) , the rock songs and the huge bosses. I like overdose but unfortunately it has not remind me of painkiller. Levels like space or haunted woods or farm, are not part of painkiller. painkiller 2 must come out of nowhere (like the first game), with a state of the art engine and must really really rocks!!!

The release is still scheduled for Q3 2008. It's been that way for like a year now.

...a voice from the darkness.....
But I'm sure I don't want a "soap", a series with 7 or more PK-games...
We'll we've had 3 so far.. and I for one wouldn't mind continuation.
The way each and every level stands apart from every other one lends itself perfectly for this.
Problem would be to remain original of course.

Well, and if You analyze these 3 then You can see that the quality/creativity/mystery/exciting about the game tend to go down. Anyway I didn't mean expansion packs when I was talking about 7 games, I meant complete new PK-games like the original PK was (so so far we have only 1, PK2 will be the next, and so on). Still don't want a soap... :D

Just know that you, the Faithful, aren't the only ones who want to see a PK2. If it's ever to get done, it would have to be done right. Which is the reason why there hasn't been anything officially announced.
