Well, I guess mine is the weirdest troubleshooting ever. I used to play Painkiller and never had any problem, but then gave it a brake and when I "came back" about 2 or 3 months later, it doesn't work anymore!!!

My pc is the same. In this 2 months I just got the latest patch, some windows updates and a stereo driver for my videocard. Of course I re-installed the game without the patches and uninstalled the stereo driver, but nothing happens.

I almost forgot: when I click on the desktop icon a second time, it says painkiller is already running (later when i try to shut the computer off it tries to finish painkiller).

I've never heard of anything like that anywhere, so please help!!!!

Stereo driver...hm...have you reinstalled your graphic driver too? Try it.

If PK is running (you can see it in taskmanager > processes) then you haven't it minimized in the task bar?

At all it must be a driver problem.

BTW - you can test the PainEditor.exe too...load a level and start..maybe we'll get a clue

Thanks! It's running now! In fact I don't know what happened, but it works!

Here's what I did:
-clicked paineditor.exe and recieved the following message

script error
[string"../DATA/LScripts/Main/Cfg.lua"]:341:attempt to call global 'IspkInstaled' (a nil value)
press "retry" to debug

-Then i reinstalled the driver and when i clicked paineditor.exe OR painkiller.exe I started recieving the same message above! (I haven't tried paineditor before, but it wasn't happening with painkiller.exe for sure)

-Later I uninstalled and installed the game for the 6th or 7th time and...it worked!!

I haven't installed any patches yet, but it's great to play it again!

Oh...at least I guess your trouble was caused by your PK installation, maybe something in your registry because of
if not IsPKInstalled() then

that means on the other side that you haven't a problem with your drivers.
Anyway...happy fragging... :D

BTW: if you'll try to patch and it shouldn't work...remember the option of a rollback with your "system recovery" option (don't know the exact words) You can make an individual recovery point before. Or copy your whole PK-folder in a Temp.

The computer was fooling the game, making it think the game is unInstalled. :p
