Nvidia GeForce 6600GT

We are running twin Nvidia GeForce 6600 GTs on a ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe motherboard with a 1.8 GHz AMD ATHALON 64 BIT 3000+ PROCESSOR,and 1 Gig of Ram. As for the system software it's Windows XP Pro version 2002,service pack2. We are having lots of screwups trying to have an unstressed gaming experience with PainKiller, And We would like to be able to get from one level to another with out the GAME LOCKING UP!!. The game isn´t frustrating, the problem is.

Have you tried out the basics? ReInstalling, updating drivers for the hardware? If so, then I would recommend disabling firewalls such as nVidia inbuilt firewall if you have that, and virus protections, and see if that removes the problem.
