I've looked up and down these forums and haven't really seen my problem, so here it goes.

When starting PK, ~75% of the time I'll get about a minute of flickering, then a light blue screen. Not a BSOD, but just a blank light blue screen. It is soothing, but not exactly what I want out of my deathmatch experience.

The weird part is that I can start the game sometimes. I mean like right after a failure. Then other times, I'll start up and get nothing. It is apparently random chance that decides whether the game will start. If anyone has had this kind of problem, I'd love to hear your solutions. Specs follow.

XP SP2 on
Tyan Tiger MPX mobo
-2x Athlon MP1900+
-AMD 760 AGP/PCI bridge (Not VIA. Don't even say VIA. There is no VIA here. None.)
1.5GB DDR
GeForce 5900XT with 81.94 drivers
SB Audigy 2

Welcome to the forum, pk is not multi threaded so if you can set affinity to 1 cpu it might help?.I have to do this with my dual core.

Could it be that you've a problem with your temperatures and/or your power supply? (because it's a incidentally failure)

It sounds like audio related, but then you should get BSoD. If this problem is related to the game itself, you can perhaps see the problem in a log file.

Btw, your motherboard and that AMD760 are parts I´ve never heard of. Have they been reliable up to this point or have you had problems with other new games released in 2004 and after?
