Bgaum posted today;

I'd like to address some recent concerns on the boards with regards to the announcement of the Dungeon Lords Collector's Edition. Update 1.4 will be made available to all those who purchased the original version of Dungeon Lords. This will be made available very soon. Our Production and Testing departments have been very backed up this holiday season, but they assure me that it is almost ready.

Actually our own efforts with the English 1.3/German 1.4 project is way ahead of DC ;)

Yeah, kind of ironic that you guys only started a day or too ago and have done so much when the Germain patch has been out for a month and the developers haven't had time to the English one done.

Reverse Engineering!? No, nothing has been deleted or added, just changing from German words to English in some of the menues to make playing a tad less painful.

I would like to translate this for the unwashed masses.

"I'd like to address some recent concerns on the boards with regards to the announcement of the Dungeon Lords Collector's Edition."

Translation: Our XBox360 kept overheating so we had to RMA for a replacement. I was bored and decided to see what all you whiners were doing.

"Update 1.4 will be made available to all those who purchased the original version of Dungeon Lords."

Translation: Since you managed to figure out how to use the German 1.4 patch, we couldn't figure out a way to stiff you for the Craplector's Edition. We're still holding out that the hard core's like GeorgeKeith will pick it up, at least for the snazzy painted tin.

"This will be made available very soon."

Translation: The ambient temperature in **** has dropped a couple hudred degrees F. so our Lord and Master D.W. Bradeelzelbub shall soon walk amoung us again!

"Our Production and Testing departments have been very backed up this holiday season, but they assure me that it is almost ready."

Translation: We were playing Kameo and Everquest. Production and Testing departments assue me that these games rock. They don't like playing Dungeon Lords, though.

Will the english 1.4 patch for original purchasers
include the new content, etc. to be found in DLCE ?

Grumpy Old Wizard

No, from the wording of the announcement, the Collector's Edition will be an additional purchase.

The CE will have content beyond 1.4.

bgaum,
In the patch post, you make it sound like more and more content is being added to v1.4 and thus the additional testing and delay. Does that mean that German v1.4 and US version v1.4 will be different since the German version was released almost a month ago?

The CE will have content beyond 1.4.

BG
is this patch 1.4 for us supose to have all the stuff that should have been in the game in the first place? and thes new spells in the CE going to be the ones left out when the game was released?

The understanding so far:

- 1.4 patch will be released soon, and is free for all.

- The collector's edition will contain *significant* content beyond 1.4 patch, including items, quests, areas, spells, etc. What exactly we don't yet know.

- There has not been a decision on what current owners of Dungeon Lords will need to do to get the CE.

I doubt there being anything more than what is in the German 1.4, because then DC would have flaming from Germany for giving English more. In that respect, there's no reason for the delay because everything is already done.

Or maybe the German version of the full game can use the English 1.4 to advantage the same way the German patch is being used with the English game. :D

bgaum,

Why not pass this patch out as-is to a few of us on the forum who have been waiting for so long and allow us to do some testing for you. I'm sure several of the 15 ppl here that post on a regular basis would be more than willing to send you daily reports on our findings.

At the very LEAST you could give us something better than "soon" which is what we have been tired of hearing for the past 3 months!

I, as with every other person on this forum bought this game and ran home and installed it, sweating bullets and smileing the whole time and then loaded it up, got to character creation and watch the gleam slowly leave our eyes as we watched all our hopes for this game slowly, step by step, missing spell by missing spell, drain from our faces. The lack of information givin on this, the official forum, is, to say the very least, quite possibly, the absolute best example of how NOT to run a PR department. I'm sure if I were to call Tech support or Dreamcatcher customer service, I'd be directed through a long line of pressing this and that to get to this or that and finally get "accidently" disconnected as soon as I push the button to talk to a real person.

Wow, whoops, Didn't mean to go off heh.. Just frustrated. Oh well. I wouldn't expect any kind of reply from anyone in DC anyhow.

I'm guessing few harbor much optimistic enthusiasm for the advent of the mythical 1.4 patch.

Still, if the product of this protracted meandering is indeed evocative of what Shock has so artfully alluded, then this forum had best steel itself for the epic deluge of strident vitriol that will invariably ensue.

I hate to say this (well, not really) but we shouldn't have to do anything to get the CE edition. I'm pretty forgiving when it comes to games getting pushed out the door early but DL was a mess.

I think it's only fair that if you can prove that you bought the original edition (via serial # or mailing the discs in for exchange) you should get the CE. I can imagine they'd only get a few hundred of these requests at most and it would go a long way towards cleaning this mess up for fans of the game. I'm talking reparations here!

I'd happily mail my original discs and box UPC in for exhange for DL:CE discs. I'd even include a SASE for return. :)

*read update* HMMM so if we want a complete game (probably still far from complete) we have to rebuy it? And we are just supppossed to believe you THIS time it is complete/added alot...

GeorgeKeith

Releasing a game the second time (not an expansion) is downright dishonest. A lot of people have already paid for the game. I wonder who will be the first idiot to buy it a second time?

svpearson

If the content that was originally promised in the original game is provided in the collectors edition....and those who bought the original game have to pay to get it....that is completely ridiculous.

Wasnt someone talking about some kind of lawsuit? I paid money for this game, and hardly played it since it was so unfinished. So I basically wasted the money. So, I dont think its unfair to expect to get what was originally promised without having to pay any more money.

This makes me quite mad if it is true, which is sounds that way from BGaum's post.

Lets start the flaming.

I do agree they should have just made an expansion instead of making us buy the game again just to get umpteen more hours of gameplay. Im not that easy to tick off when it comes to trying to patch badly bugged games, but I have to agree that this doesnt seem right.

I like one of the above statments about essentially doing a recall on the game where buyers of the origional game can sent the CDs in exchange for the collectors edition, but maybe providing that the few brave individuals to try the CE first dont compain up the wazzoo I might just go over to gamespot or EBgames and trade the DL for the CE.

That is if of course providing that three of the "super duper features" are:

-A larger world to explore instead of a land the size of Rhode Island.
-A vast collection of different monsters that will only appear in certain types of areas (swamps, coastal)
-More weapons/armor and better animation on Ninjitsu
-Better customization of the characters, because from what I have read from several of the posts regarding the German 1.4 patch, the player customization isnt as customizable as even the box or the instruction manual make it sound...

But then again, rather than keeping my hopes up I guess I may just wait until Oblivion comes out.

(Curses the fact that all the "good" RPGs are either pay to play, online only, or singleplayer only or the worlds to small)

*Shrugs* Sometimes I think the only way Id ever find an RPG that I liked (With the possible exceptions of Neverwinter Night, Baldurs Gate I & II, Diablo I & II, and admitidly Morriwind, only because it was the closest thing to Everquest that was free to play even dispite the lack of multiplayer) was to just make one myself...but then again thats just wishful thinking from a Criminal Justice major....

(Goes back to dreaming of the day where a company comes out with a MMORPG scale game thats playable offline and doesnt have a stupid montly subscription fee...and waiting with fingers crossed that 1.4 isnt a disapointment but worth the wait)

Sounds like Minions of Mirth to me: http://www.prairiegames.com/games.html

Personally, I'd sooner just wait for Oblivion...

It would be far more expedient(not to mention commercially viable - every copy of the CE reserved for such a purpose means one less *new* patron, and would leave retailers with no financial incentive to participate) if DC/HP merely offered any expanded content as a free download, within patch format.
