hello i have a problem.. and it could come from my video card.

here is my system: athlon2200+ , 512mo/ram, 1.8ghz and a geforce4 mx( i know it sucks...but for now i hav to do with it)

ok..here is my problem: i installed the game (really??) and when i try to start the game (clicking on the icon) it doesnt work and a message in french (cuz im french) tells me that "painkiller.exe" cant initialise...

so id really like to know if someone knows if it is possible to play the game with such a card... because everywhere i look (on he box, on websites..) it is written nowhere that this card isnt compatible with the game...

so please, i need ur help) guys..

thank you!

RESOLUTION:

VERIFY THAT YOUR COMPUTER MEETS THE VIDEO CARD REQUIREMENT FOR THE GAME

To identify the name and the memory of your video card:

Click Start, click Run, type dxdiag in the Open box, and then click OK.
Click the Display tab.
Under Device, look for Name and Approx. Total Memory.
Click Exit.
The Approx. Total Memory value must be 64 MB or greater. In addition, the device must be a video card and NOT an integrated graphics controller such as Intel, SiS, S3, or VIA. Contact your computer manufacturer if you are not sure whether you have an integrated graphics controller or a video card.

It should work with a Geforce 4 series card, my old Geforce 2 MX ran Painkiller, not too badly either.

I got this error quite alot, what I did to fix it was to re-insert the play disc into the drive and it worked after doing that once or twice.

But if you want a permament fix, then you have no choice but to use a no CD crack or find a better solution, I donīt know a better one.

Of course your problem might be related to different cause, but this is my guess above.

Hope this helps. Try to see if the updates fix the problem. :)

Be careful with those CD-fix because - if there isn't a new one - it will repatch your game in parts to version 1.0 and the game won't run!
But have a look for the right CD: on versions higher than 1.35 you have to put in the CD 1 (before it was CD 3) as start up CD.
BTW - you can mount your image on HDD.

That is true, so if updating doesnīt fix, find a CD fix for the version you are using. And let your spyware and virus protection keep an eye on what goes onto your hard drive. But megagames is safe, just some ads. And has a CD fix section.

As you can clearly see everything with which I can interaction is very bright and this is no fun at all. I have the latest nvidia drivers and I have also tried 3 other older versions the the same thing (even with the drivers from 2004)
Sadly I\'ll have to stop playing this game the graphic\'s a spoiler (only level 1-3 so I haven\'t wasted to much time yet :)).
I\'ll wait untill I have a new video card (or more acurately untill I have a new pc)
Great game by the way !;) I\'ll get to play it eventually, and with full detailes!

Still if you know any solutions don\'t hesitate please :)
I\'ll try to reinstall the game these days.
Hope the problem isn\'t the nocd crack lol

I don't know what is up with the brightness, but you can get away with keeping most settings on medium as long as you keep Dynamic Lighting, Bloom, Character Shadows and other settings set to Off.

Character shadows? Good joke! The shadows usually drop the framerate at most of the games more than 50%. I have tried using different setings... but nothing really helps. The game runs fine unless I use the shotgun at close range, or there are some particles in the air (fog, dust, anything), or fire, or more than 10 monsters and alot of many other things.
The video card is around 3 years outdated :)

Nevertheless I could go over the performance issue but would you play if the game looked like that? (see the weapon and the pilar in the ss)
Like I said I will try reinstalling the game. If I get the same problem I will drop the game untill I have a much beter system (yours looks preaty good, lol)
I\'m a little sick, I go after each and every secret and I would probably spend over 100 hours with the game. Usually, if I can\'t play a game with full detailes I rather not play it at all ;)

This brightness is unfixable as far as I know.
When I played with my old Geforce 2 MX, the game looked terrible, just like that actually, this is because those old Geforce cards are unable to render specular maps, and same goes for advanced lighting effects. Maybe this problem will go away if you downgrade to 1.31 or lower. If not, then upgrade.

I believe it\'s because of the graphic engine of the expansion. The only thing I could do is play the original game but not the expansion, which I won\'t...

I\'ll just wait untill I upgrade my pc. Uninstalling... case closed.

Thanks for the reply and by the way nice planet lol, back to warcraft... or maybe starcraft...

The expansion uses the very same graphics rendering as Painkiller, after patching to 1.61 that is.

I got a Pc with as crazy specs as me:
just imagine i ran painkiller on a machine (specs:450mhz, geforce4 mx4000>....64mb > agp2x, Ram = 512) and it ran like hell with medium details.Didn't that proved ---> PEOPLE like me CAN FLY....;) .
well hard luck buddy if it didnt work for u.

Your processor is too slow to even run the physics engine, let alone data transfer from memory and video card. So you are lucky the game runs at all.
