Hi, I just joined here 2 seconds ago, and I wasn't sure which board to put this under, but I have a question about the character development of this game. I do not own this game, but saw it on the shelf in best buy, and thought, wow, I should buy that! I saw that it had multiplayer options for small LAN parties, which is exactly what I've been looking for, as my present top choice game, "The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind", lacked multiplayer. I just have one question before I buy. How is the character development? Can you customize your facial appearance? Can you customize what shirt you have on, what pants, what specific pieces of armor? And, mildly off topic, is this basically just good medieval/renaissance fantasy? Or is it crazy "wtf" purple flying hearts and lingerie girls with axes fantasy?

The USA version does not officially have character customization yet unless you install the German patch and then an German-English mod. Even then, the clothing only changes when you switch armor types. Someone here in the forums at one time had a mod that allowed further clothing or armor modding. Search the forums for what you need using the search function.

The Collector's Edition of the game is due out in about a month. I would wait and buy that version of the game rather than the normal one that is out now if you are going to buy it. The Collector's Edition is supposed to have additional content though exactly what it is to add has not been specified by the company.

With the German 1.4 patch (the official English patch is not yet out, but there is an unofficial translation of the patch) you can cutomize a few things like hair style and color, skin tone, and left/right handedness. In addition the appearance of your character does change to reflect the armor and weapon that you are wearing.

Character development is one of the strong points of the game. Fortunately the game does have a medieval flavor rather than a silly anime flavor.

It is also one of the best dungeon crawl games released in many years :)

You should know that this game at best gets average rankings or scores, see:

If you do buy the game i'd wait for the newer version set to come out in Jan 06.

BTW you can buy a lot of games at Amazon at a discounted price.
