Ok, here's the 100% English final version of the mod... and the readme...

You can get the mod by clicking here (http://www.indominae.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=283).

(It's the easiest way to track the # of downloads.)

I hope the mirrors can catch up...

Anywho... here's the readme.

Unofficial German 1.4 to English Mod Readme

Brought to you by BungBo, Draxis, GeorgeKeith, and InDoMiNaE.
And also MKolter and Oink for the help and inspiration they provided!
And DoofDilla for his German to English translation help!
It is now 100% English thanks mostly to BungBo for all his
hard work staring at HEX and translating German!

This is the Final Version of the mod, again. "Version 1.41 Final"

And remember that this is unofficial, which means that Dreamcatcher,
Heuristic Park or Typhoon Games has nothing to do with this modification.
Also if this add-on harms your computer etc. we are not responsible.
(Although I see no way it can, It mostly renames Dungeon Lords sound
files and adds a couple of new translated files.)

Required game version: Dungeon Lords German 1.4.

To install:

It's best to start with a fresh install of Dungeon Lords then:

1) *Download and install Dungeon Lords English Patches to make yours Version 1.3:
- 1.0 to 1.1 http://dungeonlordsgame.com/download/dlords1.0-1.1_update.exe
- 1.1 to 1.3 http://dungeonlordsgame.com/download/Dungeon%20Lords%20Version%201.3%20patch.exe
*Note: If your game is Version 1.3 out-of-the-box then goto 2.

2) Download and Install the Dungeon Lords German 1.3 to 1.4 Patch:
http://dungeon-lords.com/?go=dl&mirrorid=48&dl=true
** MAKE SURE YOU INSTALL IT INTO YOUR DUNGEON LORDS FOLDER. **
The default directory is different for the German Version.
The German default directory is C:\Program Files\Dungeon Lords (YOU MUST CHANGE THIS!)

It must point to the defualt directory for the English version which is
C:\Program Files\Dreamcatcher\Dungeon Lords

If you installed Dungeon Lords into a folder other than the default then
"browse" to your Dungeon Lords folder and select it when installing both the German 1.4 patch and this mod.

3) Install this mod which you have obviously downloaded.

** THIS WILL UPDATE ANY PREVIOUS INSTALL OF THIS MOD TO THE CURRENT FINAL 1.4 **

Install them in that order and it you should be playing DL 1.4 in minutes.
If you were playing DL Version 1.3, then you will have to start a new game to see the changes.

And a recap from a post 3Days posted on the Dreamcatcher forum regarding
the DL1.3 to DL1.4 changes:

Singleplayer:

Players using ninjutsu can change with "Q" between fists and ranged weapons

You only can leave the shadow ruins AFTER getting the staff of holyness

If accessing the character-menus or other sub-menus, no more monsters spawn

In camp-modus, every hour will be checked if monsters spawn

The speed for removing traps on boxes is now different. Now not only is the trap skill important, but also the level of the trap.

You can change with "F" between magic and melee mode

Itīs not possible anymore to assign XP after death

After reviving, there's a message that tells you, which attribute has been decreased

In the options, you can activate a target marker (known from FPS). It shows you the actual sighted target

There are added many new spells, with the main focus on multiplayer, there are still some that do not work, and some have been added.

All heraldic signs are now included and work

All skills are now included and work, like they were announced. Players with the skill "critical hit" are now

Informed by message, if they made a critical strike.

If a player is falling down from an island in the shadow region, he dies and will be revived at the entrance

Now you can create your character individually with different hairstyles and skin colors. Also you can choose

You can now choose if you want your character to be right-handed or left-handed.

Special Weapons must be powered up at altars

Now the thief character has "identify" in his skill list

New sound effects for all races in the case of wounding or death (over 30 new SFX)

New sound effects for nearly all non-human monsters (over 200 new SFX)

You must now repair your items if they are damaged.

You must now Identify any item you pick up, otherwise it will say "? Weapon ?", "? Jewelry ?"... etc.

Multiplayer:

The game now checks language and game version before you can join a Multiplayer-Game.

At loading a terrain zone, all players are fixed at their location, until all other gamers are arrived in the zone.

If a player leaves the game, all important items will be transferred to the game leader automatically.

To track the number of downloads without going through 10000 lines of web access logs looking for how many downloads there have been.
A file download counter is already in my site, so I have decided to use it this time.
It's free, no spam, no "lines" crap like fileplanet, etc. And it only takes a second.
My mail server sends out the activation mail instantly, so register, check your mail, click the activation link, click the above and download.

You could have done most of that reading this post. :)

Why do you care how many times it's downloaded? Can't you tell that already by the number of people who have downloaded it the first time?

You need to come up with a better reason than "I want to see how many download it." What difference does that really make?

I'm not signing up for something just so you can get a personal stat fix. Go buy a Farmer's Almanac and stop causing people hassle.

Now, how exactly am I supposed to tell how many downloaded it the first time? You weren't downloading it where I could count it.
Yes, I want to know THIS TIME how many download it.
And that is simply why. If you can't handle signing up to download it, then I'm sorry because there's nothing else I can say to you except it only takes a second to do so. For those who sign up to download this file, THANK YOU.

We would simply like to know how many people download this file and if someone else has a better way to count the file downloads on a Linux web server... then I'm all ears.

You could write a program that goes through that 10000 lines for you and pulls out that information just as easy. We've seen what you can do with the mod so don't try acting like you know nothing about programming now. but I digress. because you failed to answer my question. You've had longon's on your website for some time I'd guess. I just want to know why. Since anybody can sign up, it's not to hide anything, and the only bit of information you colllect is e-mail address which your site proclaims "we don't sell" yada yada.

so basically, if you want people to sign up because you think it's "cool" just say so, but don't tell me it's because you can use a download counter with it. a counter works w/o knowing my e-mail address.

I'm not paranoid or anything, my e-mail is available anyways. It's not like you can block cookies and have an e-mail address and nobody ever get it to sell. I just want to know why YOU think that YOU should require it.

of course, I won't go on like Shock does about anything and everything, he does go on doesn't he? heh. but I would like to know since not all logons require a bit of personal information to register.

On a side note, Congrats to you and your fellows on the Mod, It's awesome, I got a logon for your website, and downloaded it. I'm extremely impressed with your knowledge and know-how! Two thumbs up. Wish DW was so efficient and through.

But thanks for the feedback. I really just want to know how many download the file this time.

Now watch, they'll release the real 1.4 patch tomorrow. LOL

I care because I put a lot of work into this mod and would like to know how many people are using it. I think that's pretty simply.

I already have a Farmer's Almanac. How do you think I figured out how to make the German 1.4 work with English 1.3? Also it was very useful in doing the translating. :p

But if you are really opposed to registering, PM me your email address and I will send you the latest gd6string file for you to copy into your DL folder. That's all you need to get the latest changes, as long as you have already installed any of the previous mod versions. You did install one of them, right? And played? Just checking. :)

So do you think the Official English 1.4 patch will have more stuff than the German 1.4? The Germans might have to make their own mod to get the changes in the English patch.

So, I guess you're saying you don't want the latest update and would rather wait for the Official 1.4 patch. That's fine with me.

Actually, I did no programming. I just renamed a few files and changed the German to English. Not much to brag about. Even you could of done that, but apparently you've been too busy with other pursuits.

I checked out your website. Very cool. I still play Dungeon Master, Eye of The Beholder 1 and 2 on my Amiga 2000. Did you ever play Crystal Dragon? That was a good game. Anyway, thanks for the memories. I might reinstall my Arkania game Blade of Destiny on the old Amiga and check it out again. Also the German game, Abandoned Places 2. I never got to finish that one because I got stuck in the third dungeon and couldn't find anyone on GEnie who could give me a hint. I couldn't find a key for some stupid door. It drove me nuts. I finally hex edited the save file and put myself on the other side of the door, but then there was another door with no key and I just lost interest. :)

Thanks again.

While I was a little suprised at the requirement to register, registration was not a big deal to me. I registered and downloaded the file. After all, I am trusting him not to embed malware in the unofficial patch, so trusting him not to sell my email address (this one I use for all my game forums) is not really a big deal. And I'll say again that I do appreciate all the effort that has gone into this patch. I wish the company would put out a similar effort.

I certainly had no intention of bringing out the big angries with my earlier post, I simply posed a question. as I stated in my earlier posts, I did indeed register and download myself, and only wanted to point out an observation.

I personally am somewhat limited on my Linux knowledge, I've installed a few times and played, once had my own webserver/shell server on a T3 but gave it up due to lack of time to learn enough to truely control the box. Thus, I have written scripts in tlc before, Log searchers even for the IRC server that was running on the machine, but it's been several years and a good bit of lost interest. I'm sure I still know people on IRC who could write the exact script you need in 10 lines or less, but you probably know several amongst yourselves too.

anyhu, I am sorry for starting such a ruckus and will in the future, ask such questions in a PM eh.

It was a reasonable question. No need for apologies. I understand why Indominae decided to do it the way he did. I tried looking at one of those access logs and it would be a huge pain to get a download count from them. Heck, I registered with his site even though I have the latest version. It's a great website. Anyway, go ahead and post your questions, concerns or ideas. No need to PM them. Unfortunately we can't please everyone. That's just the way it is. And I have given those who do not want to register an honest option for getting the latest mod update. But, so far, they are not responding or giving any explanation why they are not taking me up on my offer. It's more than anyone is getting from DC. Besides all our work will just disappear once DC finally does come out with the 1.4 patch, but even knowing that, we thought it was worth the effort. And a lot of people have show their appreciation for it and it's always nice to know that people appreciate your work.

Oh well, thanks Madroth. I hope you're enjoying the mod. :)

Also, there have been 79 downloads so far.

No, I don't know the game Crystal Dragon . Dungeon Master is the only games I never completed ,the pc was to fast ,moslo did not solve that issue.I must run in a corridor ,push a button and run back but the door was already closed before I reached that point :(
But The Eye of the beholder series was the best I ever played and the game I most edited in hex ,I learned a lot from that.I was never able to extract and convert the sounds ,that was the only problem.

But hey, the best thing that ever happened to me to get a personal contact with Rick Gush of the Lands of Lore series,he gave me the official book of AD&D (with Westwood stamp in it) they used to build the eye of the beholder series .

So people who are complaining about Dungeon Lord ,go play a real retro game like Eye of the beholder 1,based upon decent AD&D rules and you will not sleep for nights :)

But I know the place in Dungeon Master where you had problems! It was very difficult, but I managed to get past it and finish the game. I know about MoSlo, I have used it to try and get old games to run on my newer computers. Eye of The Beholder 1 and 2... I played on my Amiga, but EoB 3 I played with an emulator, but I haven't finished it yet. I will though. It sounds like you're playing some old games using an emulator. What emulator are you using? Throne of chaos...that's correct ,with the voice of Patrick steward on the cdrom version. Not for the Amiga. Black Crypt..I heard of that game ,similar graphic engine ans EOB and DM.On win2K it crashed a lot.

I don't use a real emulator to play most of the games , I only use VDMsound ,much better than dosbox .

I think that place you're talking about in Dungeon Master is where you need to drop all your items and armor in order to run fast enough to push the button. Basically your characters have to get naked. :) Did you try that? If not maybe try it again sometime. I agree VDMsound is great though I also use dosbox occasionally.

nice to see some oldskool rpg fans around :)

well, if i remeber correctly, EOB was one of the first games where i started to play around with the savegames. Me and a buddy from school made ourselfs a nice hex item list in a painfull try and error process (without even knowing the slightest thing about HEX)

not to forget the map-painting fun we had! automap? hehe, pen and paper were your map back in those days and also a welcome distraction during boring school hours (colorizing EOB maps)

EOB and Automap?? Haha......ROTFl(LMAO) .Real dungeon crawling and start over when we fall into the pit (again).
And for EOB 3 I bought a clue book but that took a lot of fun of and EOB 3 was the worst of that series anyway.

Now in this time we think automappers etc are required ,in that time it should be luxury.
But editing the game was also fun .In search for a missed key or more HP.

I don't know, because there is no Official 1.4 to try it out on. But it is a good question. That's something I'll test out once the official 1.4 patch is released as well as others I'm sure. Even if you had to uninstall and reinstall the game and patch up again, I'd imagine that the save games would still work. 1.3 save games worked with the unofficial 1.4. But I'd back up my save game folder anyway, just because. We'll just have to wait and see.

Man, chill out. He went to all that trouble to make the game playable for English speaking people, and you're hassling him because you have to register for his site, which takes about 20 seconds or less? Come on...

Yes, it does. But if you want to try out the character customization that is new to 1.4, you will need to start a new game.

It has been a LOOONG time since I played this game. Chiefly because I was so stunned when I got to the second town and found NOTHING there except 1 inn keeper and he only had a desk to stand behind and nothing else in that huge Inn.

Anyhow, I was soooo stuned I couldnt move and couldn't play the game and they been saying they were coming out with corrective patches (1.4 specifically) back since Aug - All lies.

Does this German 1.4 patch add all the missing content, or does it just correct broken items in the game such as "character customization window"?

Sorry, but this 1.4 is still sorely lacking in furniture and people. It fixed a bunch of other stuff like character customization, spells, identify and repair etc. You can search the board for a more comprehensive listing of actual 1.4 fixes. Various people have posted those.

I did post the file on a page named http://www.sentinel69.demon.nl .

You must replace the old gd6string file with this one .I only have the older not 100% english patch .

There was no problem, really. I shut all my servers down last night at 1am.
My power company was upgrading their equipment today (they had sent me mail notification) and so my power was off between 9am and 2pm today (Eastern). And since my UPS died awhile back and I haven't replaced it yet, I simply shutdown the servers to prevent the planned power outage doing it and screwing something up. My power is on and everything is back up.

Hi folks!

I just want to say that this page will be removed in about 2 weeks because I'm forced to choose a different provider.
