I'd like to know where to get a refund on a game that wasn't finished, and even with a COMMUNITY made mod, still isn't.
Shame on you Dreamcatcher for putting out such a poor product with poor customer support. And then you want to put out a collectors edition? Whats that got, even less finished in the game for 2x the price?
If I can't get a refund, I most certainly will speak with my retained lawyer about a class action lawsuit towards Dreamcatcher and see if they still want to make crappy, unfinished games after he's done with em.
Can email me at: caric@innocent.com if yer interested in purSUEing this course of action as well. No money will be needed, but the lawyer will want his fee for representation.

Don't you think you're taking this just a little far, dude? As if there aren't enough frivolous lawsuits (or laughable threats of) these days. Just resell the game to EBGames, find something to do to make up that whopping extra twenty dollars you're out on - though playing the game at all was worth that, at least - and just don't buy the collectors edition.
Heh, customer service sure wasn't good, but have fun "most certainly speaking with your retained lawyer."

Go get 'em tiger....
I'm apalled by the rotten customer service and lack
of class exhibited by both the developer and publisher.
In this day of technology, you'd think they could at least communicate to the consumer (the consumer that provides them with a living) at the very least...save face
and reputation perhaps?
However, lots of business in this country is conducted by very unethical means and couldn't give a rat's *** about you.

I've seen threats of lawsuits with various other games in the past but for some reason I have a hard time laughing too hard about all the lawsuit threats against this game. It really was released as a shoddy piece of trash. On top of that, I'm sure they see that the community had to "rig" a mod with the German patch and they still can't post the official patch up for download. The CE announcement is probably what actually made me laugh the most. I saw that coming a long time ago.
So charge that credit card up, homie, and use your frequent suer miles.
Heh guys....read the " Please Read" post in this forum.

Oh, don't worry about my email. All that bs is bounced back ;)
As for reviews. Do you really think that a handful of people can honestly say what anything they are reviewing is REALLY like? No. Why? Cuz its all based on personal beliefs, opinions and experience. Tomato, tomayto. Lotto, I'm f****n rich. Understand? Simple as that.
With that. I took the pos game back where I bought it and got a full refund. Simple as that.
Friv isn't the word. The problem these days is no one stands up for what is 'right'. They let people run over them, companies, governments etc and do nothing about it. They wait for someone else to do the 'dirty' work for them. However, the more people that allow it, the more these said people do it and get away with it till it becomes the norm. Bully hits you, you f****n punch him back. If you can't, run and grab a bat. That doesn't work, get a car and run that ******* down. Simple as that. People don't stand up for themselves and give all the power to the bullies. Somewhere, somehow, someone has to stand up. I don't let people run me over. I'll get a bigger car ;) It's as simple as that :)
Set your heart on doing good. A fool is happy until his mischief turns against him, and a good man my suffer until his good ness flowers. Do not make light of your failings saying, "what are they to me" a jug fills drop by drop. So the fool becomes brimful of folly. Do not belittle your virtues, saying "they are nothing" a jug fills drop by drop, so the wise man becomes brimful of virtue.

I am starting a class action lawsuit too. For $100 U.S. you can participate in my lawsuit. I will be asking for my Nigerian lawyer to sue for $10,000 for each person who purchased this game who joins my class action lawsuit. The fact that you were dumb enough to purchase the game without trying it or reading (or in some cases believing) any reviews will not stop you from being eligible for your $10,000 settlement.
Please send your name, address, social security number, and date of birth to my email address wellsuethebigliars@hotmail.com and $100 U.S. to my Nigerian bank account at the National Bank of Nigeria account 8844321. Proceeds from this lawsuit will help me get my family out of jail. They were locked up by the Nigerian Secret Police.
Sincerely

Get naked and oiled up, kneel down face first over the bed, grab both cheeks-in-hand, and SPREAD 'EM so they can fit it in.
You're telling this guy to TAKE IT LIKE A MAN because he feels wronged in a consumer's market where people who feel wronged have the RIGHT to receive vindication for wrongdoings. In otherwords, if NO ONE stands up to this company with this game, what's to stop the next company from releasing the next crappy game?
Nothing because the market is full of passive fanboy consumers like you who when wronged feel like they should just get over it, because "it's only 20 dollars".. or maybe because "one guy can't change a big company"
SCREW THAT
Stand up for what you believe in and go for the throat as a consumer in today's market. Why? Because that's exactly what companies are doing when they promise us one thing and sell us something else.
You can let 'em stick it in, or you can break it off. I admire the guy for pursuing the latter.
Disclaimer: I love Dungeon Lords version 1.4.. but that is what the game should have been from the start.

hmm...1.4 itself is still sooooooo unfinished... but still...its not hard to get it...so buying the game and putching it isnt too bad also cause of the low price :)
but unfotunatly theres people here whos from some reazon will say that this game is the best and dreamcather are the best and when people like americanarchy say the truth, the fanatic dreamcatcher funboys would only say "stop crying" or "deal with it"!!!...hmm why the **** should i ???
this company as heavy potencial and is still on thr market just cause of those stupid fanboys! its must be only people who as the money to spend and other shallow minded people -.-
i for myself took the last risk with this company.. i'll keap playing the game..and if they wont make a complit patch in a while i'll do the best thing i can...downloading the collector adition and spread it at net.
give me, 1 friggin reazon that i shouldnt do it, while concidering the fact that if not-i will pay twice for a half.

a consumer's market where people who feel wronged have the RIGHT to receive vindication for wrongdoings.Sorry, I had to laugh at that. There is no such thing as THE RIGHT in free market economics. You don't have any rights. You have the choice to buy a crappy game or not. End of story.
Sorry, I had to laugh at that. There is no such thing as THE RIGHT in free market economics. You don't have any rights. You have the choice to buy a crappy game or not. End of story.
I didn't say the first thing about buying a game and what rights I have when choosing what products I buy.
I intended to explain that..
It is my right to hire an attorney if I feel wronged by a company and there is a court in my country that will judge whether I have been wronged or not. If they determine so, said court will order said company to pay restitution to myself and others who have been similiarly wronged.
Consumers dont have any rights? Tell that to Toshiba who is currently paying out $100-$1000 to every person who owns a certain model of their laptop due to a Class-Action Lawsuit ( http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,103700,00.asp )
(I know about this because the company that I work for is collecting 12 paychecks from Toshiba. Article is from 2002, but here is present confirmation that others are receiving money from Toshiba http://yro.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=06/01/06/0725250 )
I bet Toshiba will disagree with you. ALSO I bet Toshiba will think TWICE before again releasing a product that (and I quote) "contained a design flaw that made them unable to perform at advertised levels." How ironic, that sounds very similiar to what this company has done with Dungeon Lords.
Consumers continue to bend over for companies because they think they have no choice. At least Toshiba's consumers had the balls to speak up, and now they are getting what is rightfully theirs.. their money back. Because it was taken under false pretenses and false advertising, all under the guise of "free market economy" and "salesmenship".

I would have to agree ... alot of people on this board (and other consumers elsewhere) are sooooooo freaking complacient. What happened to your balls? Take them out of your purse, please, and stand up for yourself, FFS =/
And reviews for this game? Please. Not EVEN harsh enough. This is one of the few games in history I can think of that should have recieved like a NEGITIVE FIVE AT LEAST! Those marketing dollars game mags and web sites get can, and usually do, paint a very rosey picture for some true steaming piles of crap...
If you are too chickensh!t to stand up to someone or a company and say "Hey, this isn't right!" and take action, them go back to suckin' on mamma's teat, and let the people with some guts handle it. We don't need you, or your negitive, limp-wristed comments.

Heh. Go get 'em, He-man.
You cynical condescension is sorely disappointing.
The year 2005 produced more revenue for the video gaming industry than any other year has ever produced.
Meanwhile many (if not a majority) of every other entertainment consumer market reported lower returns than expected and the cost of living is rising higher than the value of standard wages, furthering that margin by the day.
Why do you think that is?
It's my opinion that a lot is owed to one principle reason. Because video games are the only market that consumers purchase unfinished goods and remain content with them. If we bought an unfinished car, or piece of furniture, or DVD player, or TV, or any other product so blantantly incomplete, we would enrage and petition, demand recalls, whatever.. but since it's only 40 bucks and "other games are released with bugs anyway", we accept it and continue to pay these big companies our hard earned dollars without serious complaint. (I don't mean BAD games, I mean INCOMPLETE games) We just shelf the game and wait until the next game to blow 40 or 50 bucks on, or (if we are particularly noble or good people) spend countless amounts of our own hours fixing the game for free so more people can enjoy a product someone else is getting paid for.
I'm still incredibly thankful for the work people have done on this game, but my point is that it pisses me off to no end that those people had to do the work in the first place, instead of the company that made the game.

People continue to give big companies their money because people are idiots. Fact of life. By far most of the titles turned out nowadays are not worth my money (I don't mean INCOMPLETE games, I mean BAD games). I suggest you read this (http://www.the-underdogs.org/scratch.php). The cause for that tireless rant is the same as for yours: the gaming industry is about money, not about entertainment. If half a game brings in enough money, half a game is what you get. Now, they choose to deal with it by rejecting the system. You choose to stamp your foot and demand your RIGHTS. I ask myself: which sounds like the better idea?
I didn't have to think long about it.
That's an awesome read and I agree with a lot of the points being made, but the writer is a designer and as such has a vastly different angle of perspective than the consumers at large. It's also different subject matter, as I still differentiate between "bad" and "unfinished" games separately (although if you do not I respect your decision not to). An unfinished game is a falsely-advertised slap in the face to me. A bad game is no different from a bad movie, a bad song, a bad TV show, etc. An attempt that failed, but an attempt nonetheless. And as a consumer and not a developer, what would I do to "reject the system"? Play only games made by indie developers?
I don't contend to stamp my foot and demand anything. I am simply proclaiming what I already know I have. My rights in this circumstance are already owned by me, I do not have to demand for them from anyone. I am simply encouraging the community of readers to excercise their rights as well and to try to break up some of this complacent acceptance that has penetrated every vein of my favorite industry in the world.
If the companies create unfinished games, and we the consumers promote this behavior by purchasing these games and then sitting quietly in the corner instead of pursing a refund, then what's to break the cycle? Are there no game companies to be held accountable for their actions? If someone released a blantantly unfinished game and was forced to actually pay a refund to every customer they duped, don't you honestly think companies would think twice before releasing an unfinished game just to be "under or on budget?"
Their budget would get blown wide open when they had to return all the money they made by promising players one game and then releasing them a shell of their promises. It might make those extra two weeks of programming crunch-time to finish the game actually worth the salary they pay their designers.

Well, almost nothing what you write contradicts what I'm saying. The complacency you talk about IS what the game publishers thrive on. I'm just doubtful about the chances of success of everyone complaining their arses off. If irony holds, they'll prohibit suing publishers and developers, like they prohibited suing tobacco companies.
But seriously, forcing game companies to deliver a decent product would be nice, but it's hardly practical. Whether a game is "good" or "bad" or even "unfinished" is a matter of opinion. Take a quick look around the forum. Count the posts saying "I love this game!". That's where the rights business gets shaky. Any defense would point at those and say "Well, THOSE people are satisfied. If you don't like our product, that's okay, you don't HAVE to buy it."
And that's exactly what I intend to do about it. I won't buy games that aren't worth buying. The last game that got my money was Demise (http://www.decklinsdemise.com/news.php) (although it, too, is less than perfect. It's also rather niche, so it's starting to become a matter of taste now).
Okay, to sum it up. Games are about money. People are idiots. Idiots WILL spend money on bad or unfinished games (and not ask their money back). As long as that happens, the gaming industry is fairly safe from disgruntled customers who expect quality.

:D Excellent summary and you have some good points all around. Nicely done, I have nothing more to add. :D

Demise is a fun game. But it also was not supported by the developer in the way it should have been. I ordered the game when it frist came out, and watched as the developer took all the money made to try amd make another title. We only got 2 patches before we were told that was it. They said we can not afford to support this title anymore. Then some years later they re-release the game and expect me to buy it again. I am glad that the new owner is going to suport the frist version as well as the last.

This could easily be a false advertising suit. The box clearly showed certain features that are not included in the original game. And moreover not in the current version 1.3 .
If you purchase a vehicle with power seats, power windows, heated seats, etc. And when you pickup the vehicle it does not include these options, there must be a resolution. Either you get your full money back, the car gets the options, or you get a discount. If none of the options are available, you have to sue. This is the way it is and the way it has to be.
This is for any product, reguardless if it is a vehicle, fast food, or a piece of software.
