Is anybody currently doing a speedrun of Painkiller & BooH? I'm almost finished with my nightmare speedrun and I would like to have some comments from you.

I really don't know..I think that must be a nice speedrun-movieset though, so it should be shared (if the Guys there will accept it). The times are nice but using or not using up cards and the selection of cards and the times of using them up..speculating with these things is always a big dilemma... If You use the Triple Haste card then that really improves Your time (because the program obviously counts Your playing-time 8 times slower), even if You can use it up only maximum 3 times (with Mercy). But if You have the reward of the "5-Star Challenge", then You can keep using up the cards during the whole completion (and it's not cheating, since You can activate gold cards unlimitedly with that reward), and that surely could give You an amazing time (although since PowerMad, it's maybe not possible to check if You didn't achieved that reward by using up some of PM's cheats)! If You don't use up cards at all, that's just "clear and fair" (the times will be straight and understandable for anyone), but Your times won't be that good..although I think it's not a "time attack"-challenge but a "speedrun"-challenge (the two are DIFFERENT!), so it would be still okay... There's a running "speedrun-challenge" here on DarkInfinity's Forums (http://darkscorner.de/forums/viewtopic.php?t=241): there You can find some nice Statistics, mainly from BloodBuster, who even shared videos of His progression. But the Participants there picked up different rules: stakes only (after having 999 ammo into all weapons), no cards, etc....
Generally I think, You definitely should share Your videos there - nice job (I'm going to download and watch them all these days), and that could be the first speedrun-movieset for PK (+BOOH)... * thumbs up * And please keep us informed about how things are going... ;) Thanks!

I don't think anyone's done an entire front-to-back speedrun of the whole game(s). Over at dark's, there are speedruns of individual levels, but not the whole shebang. This outa be interesting - thanks for sharing!

I downloaded your boss videos and was "yep" impressed!
Your time attacks are first class:
your 0:17 for necrogiant - we share it (kalme's too i think)
your 0:18 for mudgolem - kalmes 0:19, my 0:14:D
your 0:08 for thor - we both also had 0:08 (it's common:p )
your 0:59 for alastor - kalmes 1:07, my was 1:02 (man, you own us)
your 1:54 for lucifer - never tried, cause it was not needed, but i will!
About your ordinary levels speed runs:
I downloaded your first cemetery clip and saw you have a skill, especialy the end was a masterpiece job - "thumbs up", but sorry to say, we had agreed here, that speed runs MUST be done without any tarot cards, and i think kalme told it to your admin of that "speeddemoarchive" site, since without tarot the true skill is shown and you gyus there must accept it.
Hey RJ19, you did good that you posted here, i adore challenges.

I love that speedrun site... I've watched a bunch of them and always impressed with not only the times, but the creative use of completing the levels/games.
I'll check out your speedruns of PK once I get over this flu I have :(
Now I'm starting to improve my NO CARDS run. I negleted it too much earlier when I was doing these videos. But now I thing that my aiming and gaming skills are a little bit better now and I like challenges. But first of all I'm trying to get Snowy bridge sub 5 minutes ;)

It would be much more interesting to see not-tarot run.
Where are your links to the not-tarot ones if you have written the times for beating them near the times of beating with tarot?
I'm starting to upload the non tarot run to filefront. Earlier I was more interested about completing the tarot run so I uploaded those videos first. And since I got a crappy connection (64kbs ISDN), the uploadind isn't very fast. But I'll begin uploading with the smaller ~5min videos.
Just finished redoind snowy bridge, new times are 5:21/4:42. Once again slow fps gave me some hard time getting this on video...

I downloaed that awesome doom2 speedrun some time ago (kalme recommended it) and you could see that the different levels were done by different ppl.
so I think that you could probably archive better times of you work with more ppl...

Yeah, even uploading is sucking up with filefront and I couldn't get but 0.1kb/s when downloading from there. WTF is going on with their servers?

I have my files in filefront too - people say that it is buggy download too...
What sort of question is that about connections!?
As i know, your connection is better than my, so you should get a taste of MP, because i play MP with very schity stuff...
I didn't mean to offend you with that connection question, I would just like to know how much does it cost to use dial-up for an hour down there? And what kind of connections do you have generally. I tested MP and got a 3s lag, not good. I should propably check the settings better but now I'm 100% speedrunning ;)

A, my net is limited to 6144 MB per month!
1 MB costs 12 cents. 100 cents = 1 litas. 1 euro = 3.5 litas.

I think that the boss fight is crappy but those bubbles and swampies attacks are so random that 1:27 will suffice. And that was the only time I wasted him when he was putting out the fires on first time. I also noticed that it's possible to PK jump over the gates in Town using the carts, but the time required to push those carts against the gates and make the PK jumps happen, is the same as blasting through areas the old fashioned way. Not to mention the luck not having any damage when pushing carts. I missed only 2 maybe 3 shots so I'm pretty happy with it :)

I never managed 5 stars unlocking Tarot in Enclave, started in Nightmare using the cards from the 4 first levels.
The problem for me allway was to pickup all 43 Ammoboxes in under 2min.:rolleyes:
But now after i saw Ur 0:17 Enclave i maybe try again.
Yep, the game version is 1.64. I also have kalme's chapter 5 trauma mod installed. Things will get pretty wild when I get there, since I'm allready banging my head to the wall because of C3L1 ;D. My run has nothing to do with 5-stars, that would take sooooo much longer. And about those time attacs (enclave 0:17, swamp 0:18 etc) they are pretty easy to archieve with the aid of triple haste card :)

But this ain't finished yet and hardest levels are yet to be played. Forest and Alastor are giving me the shivers. I'm thinking should I buy some better parts for my computer so the game would run smoother :D

Might be a challenge but I'm doing a SPEEDrun not 100% run and I only care about the fastest ways of finishing the levels. I collect some ammo and armors and visit some secrets but only because they help my running. I might do a full 5-star run but first I'll finish this. Only five levels to go :)
What do you think, are bugs allowed in PK speedrun? Since this is what happened with Alastor:

It's the same bug that has happened to kalme, though he has a 0:29. Alastor just went down after the first fall and I was like WTF ;) :) . But what now, should I compress the video and make it a part of my run or do I have to kill that f***er the old fashioned way :confused:

I finaly downloaded all of the ChapterIV videos. :D
U didnīt triggered some checkpoints for saving time, hehe nice. Especially in Castle, Palace and Babel. I never tryed this.:eek:
In some maps Ur so low on HP (juokse Daniel!!;) ), in Forest (5/14) or in Babel (21/45).:p
Also in Tower was fun to see how U throwed Alastor into the air (at the end).
Again: awsome videos!:cool:
Well when my HP runs low I start to rely on luck. I just think "That wont hit me, that wont hit me" and keep killing enemies as fast as I can. In some vids you can see how close rockets and fireballs get, and there are times when luck doesn't save me :D
But anyways, heres an improvement on C1L1 cemetery. Now it's 4:38, only one second faster than the old one but better is better, right? ;)

I allready wondered why U most used the painkiller in Cemetery (with mass of shotgunammo).:cool:
Ur just one Second faster now but the run looks much better. I agree.
I downloaded the Monastery and City of Water videos somewhere else allready.;)
Remember: With the stakegun U run much faster (then with RL).:eek:
What mouse do U use? I have a mx518 (2 buttons broke:o )
I use painkiller since it faster than shotgun, it has longer range and it has no spread. My mouse is logitech mx510 and used very much. The first button gets jammed sometimes, not good ;)

Use Painkiller, Stake (SMG, Bolter, Driver) for "juokse"-ing
Rocketlauncher is a verry heavy gun!:rolleyes:
Remember: With the stakegun U run much faster (then with RL).

Why don't you combine the shortcut with my method of timing a morph right when you get to the flaming wall of cars, then you might break 11:00. There are enough monsters in the 1st 2 areas alone to build up 60-65 souls, then you could kill the remaining few required over by the shortcut in the wall.;)
This shortcut has been mentioned long ago btw, I don't remember by whom though. I know what you mean by the shortcuts messing with the game, everything from doors to AI are effected. My Snowy Bridge 5:28 run was like that.
BTW, I have a 1:01 speedrun of Loony Park, in case you haven't seen it. It combines my carousel to acid bath roof jump, with Varus', level end trigger, but accessing it a different way.
I killed no monsters in this video, but the scoreboard always said 1 killed at the end. It must have either been a bug appearing from using the shortcut or two monsters going at each other.
(In Explorer this will play in it's native size, if you're using Firefox, select the 640 size on the Putfile viewer.)

The carousel thing had crossed my mind and now I'm gonna start testing it right away. There's only one thing see, I have done all of my speedrun videos on trauma and there is no savegame possibility, I don't even use checkpoint saves.
Those jumps and climbing you pulled of in your video would be pretty much impossible to do all in a row and in single segment, but I'm sure gonna try it :)
Anyway, that was the best vid I've seen from loony park :)
Oh btw, if you wan't zero kills from this level, you must avoid the spawning of the clowns in the first area. They start killing each other when you use shortcuts.

If U load the maps in the PainEd they are all Insomnia. No idea if the 50% more damage is just added to the monsters or to the PlayerHurtBoxes too.
I think its only for monsters.

50% more damage is altough added do the falling damage. If you have watched my Opera House speedrun you know that there is a quite a jump. Doing that on trauma takes 80hp at least, but doing it on nightmare requires only 55hp.

If you want to record such things I highly recommend Game Cam Full ($25), which has Cached Video Recording. With CVR you can record by hitting the CVR hotkey to record up to 2 minutes worth of your prior gameplay, without having record engaged while playing. For a short speedrun like that it would record the whole thing.
The jumps are tough, both getting to the top of the carousel and especially using the saw blades to jump to the acid bath roof. It might be very difficult to do all in one take, but not necessarily impossible.
BTW, how do you get past the 1st area without spawning the Clowns, I've never heard of anyone being able to do that? Did you mean the Marionettes instead in the second area? I already know how to get to the second area without spawning monsers there, but that means using Kalme's ticket booth jump and the long way around to Varus' level end trigger.
The only way I know of to get to Varus' level end trigger fast is by going straight to the carousel and onto the acid bath roof, which spawns monsters in the second area. I always thought it was the second area where the monsters were fighting each other. I could hear and see the Marionettes going at it once, spitting fire at each other.
When the level begins, run to the left and run by the fence and then climb up for the megahealth. That avoids the spawning. Check my loony park vid, it has it shown and I think that my method is new altough there are much known things in it. And I made a little mistake earlier when I said that those clowns start to kill each other. They don't, they just happen to fall to that spikepit since they are trying to follow you when you get to the second area.

BTW, did you know you can host sub 25MB files via Putfile and they load much faster than DLing them through Filefront? I would still store copies of them either on your PC or Filefront though, Putfile tends to delete files from time to time.

I don't know is that such a fast time but I'm always happy when I'm able to beat long levels under 10 minutes. I haven't tried to record this level because the shortcuts are tough and require high fps which you don't get with fraps.

You don't have to collect those stars outside the church. I used this route in my speedrun and it worked. When you get to the church, just play forward like you had gotten in from the front door.

I'll change that "done by" to "video made by" tonight. It's quite difficult to say who did what and who has found something first but I'll try to give credit to everyone. I tried to find those shortcut vids on the forums but couldn't find them so I made my own recordings. And I myself found my way to these forums very late so I haven't got most my shortcut info from here. I found those routes myself :)

I have done it but those fence doors are closed between the halls so it can't be used as a shortcut :(

About military base: yes, i guess we both jumped from the first airplane but we discovered chain doors to be closed...what a waste of good shortcut!
Definetly a waste. If those doors were open, it would shave off ~1.5 minutes from speedrun. And military base is also a sucky place because of those invisible walls. If there weren't those, it would be possible to do some fancy shortcutting with pk jumps.
Oh and gotta add that I've done stone pit now in 8:47. Are there more shortcuts in that level than the 3 I have recorded?

Now about the snowy bridge container area: first shorcut is to jump on the ladder before the gate closes - ok.
But what if you are late and the gate closes before you jump - you showed a second way through the secret area - not ok.
Well, i imagine you have not "searched" the container area so good that you used that long shortcut, cause there is a faster one:

Ou je and my docks wallclimb was extreme def + the jump on the building is very hard too, cause you usualy jump on the lower floor, but you need to jump on the higher one!
Try yourself! If you will land on the lower verge, the shortcut won't go cause of the invisible walls ahead, but if you go on the higher verge - it will do!!!

Ye, imagine climbing on that area with 120 FPS! However even with big FPS this is a very hard climb for less skilled players.

So I put Artas' container shortcut to the place of my secret shortcut.
And I also started testing some cart jumps in town level and they don't really matter in speedrun. It's possible to get over the gates but it takes time to push or shoot those carts to right place and do pk jumps. It's actually faster to just kill everything and move on. But I could record some vids to show the ways :)

That shortcut is not possible to finish, cause the doors to the fountain area are closed, and it is not possible to trigger monster spawn in the plaza of the CoW balcony secret.

Well, the shortcut in the amputee chamber was very impressive and hard!
You pk-jumped!
The shortcut in the witch area was also good, because you did not had to use pk-jump, just got on the van and went over the gates, what makes it a true shortcut!
Forget that shortcut over the gates with pk-jump we spoke, since i counted it takes long time to drag a van and more - to make a pk-jump while the zombies are restless...

Yep I know about that one and you can also get over the gate from right side. My fps is just too low when recording so I wasn't able to do that. But good thing that you did. Nice work Artas! :)
I did a new speedrun through Town level by using both shortcuts:

Downloaded town and now will do swamp, i hope it won't take as it was with town - 10 hours of downlaod!
The time looks impressive, specialy when it is shotgun based, though when i came back to swamp after train station and geting the chaingun, i found it very useful in swamp since there are 2 universal ammo boxes and chaingun makes bubble shooting no time.
I guess i'll have to make an ordinary shotgun run, since with some chaingun help on bubbles it was 0:41.
On no RJ, the bosses will be mine in all cases:D
EDIT: wow, already downloaded!
But you missed good shots with flying bubbles and did not got naer him.
But i guess you will want to improve it below 60.

I did try this new swamp record quite many times and since it's 23 seconds improvement, I'm happy with it.

Nice one, RJ :) . I popped over to "All About Painkiller" and looked at some your speed run vids, again. The way you play for a speed run is just so different to my own somewhat sedate approach, I just found myself laughing out loud in appreciation. Lovely stuff.

thank you for the kind comments. When I'm speedrunning I'm in flames, I just go as fast as I can and kill everything which comes in my way. And I don't care which weapon I'm possessing, I have only one goal, the end :D

One thing about the video resolution crossed my mind: Just lower them as much as U like (while demorecording the speedrun to get much FPS as possible). But if Ur capture the video raise them back to the max.
Then Ur fast and the video is a graficaly eyecatcher.
My fps goes down to hell if I rise my resolution. I really hope someone fixes the demorecording so that health/armor/ammunition/time can be shown.

Yes thats true. With a older PC U dont get more then 30-40 FPS if Ur capturing it with FRAPS and high PK details. U need a better PC. :(
I know that blowfish is still hard working on PK (he sended me a new beta yesterday). But it still will take very long time till he finnished all fixes.
Sadly he have to do it all alone and it doesnt look like DC isnt willing to share the soucecode with him. :mad:

I think fixing the demorecording would be the biggest improvement in fixing the game and making it more usable... But I know it's a hard and long work, and all what BlowFish is working on..so we have to wait...
