Ok, I got rid of my old version of DL and bought the new CE version.

I would like this thread to be a place where others who have a legal copy of the CE (due to the Gamespy key code) can gather and host online games. Please post the day and time and time zone and the name of your host game.

Maybe some of us can get together and play in multiplayer and attempt to get some worth out of the game. I have to say that I liked the multiplayer once I tried it out.

I will be hosting a Gamespy game called Xyyth's Game at 1PM Eastern on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 18th. Those who would like to get together and test this out is welcome to join. The game will start as soon as enough people show up.

This will be a new game with Level 1 characters, no player killing, and set to Hard level if we have enough to fill up a group. I will be playing a thief just to let everyone know ahead of time. Hope to see you there.

at 1PM Eastern on Saturday afternoon, May 18th.

May!? Man, you plan far in advance! :p Had to give you crap on that one.

I pop in most nights of the week around 8-10pm Pacific to see if I can get a game up to test out the multi in CE. Want to recommend it to my friends, but want to see if it's playable first.

Well, several showed up today and we've already established a game following the storyline and will probably continue with that for a while. I'm sorry to those who couldn't make it today but I did announce it in advance.

If someone else wants to host a new version 1.5 game, that's fine with me but I really don't want to start all over again hosting a new game when we're in the middle of this one.

Hey Xyyth,
Can you give us a quick run-down on the experience?

How many players?
Where, geographically?
All broadband?
How long did y'all play?
How far in the game did you get?
How was the lag?
Any players getting stuck/unable to move?
Any players getting warped to other places in the map?
Any multi bugs (like wrong, non-host player talks to key NPC and the whole game is screwed)

Thanks in advance! :)

Hey you cheap biznitches: if you ever figure out how to earn some money and trade the old 1.0 for the new 1.5, come join my game this Tuesday evening at 8PM Eastern. I will be hosting over Gamespy.

It's too bad players can't join a game in progress. We started out with 5 people and we got as far as the theater before one person LDed. Then we had another LD in Fargrove after a patch of snakes attacked.

I don't see how multiplayer can function in this game unless you have the same players who will to play through to the end at scheduled times. It would get monotonous to rehash all the same quests and start over again with new people everytime you want to play this game online.

We had one person who wanted to rush through the dialogue and just hack and slash stuff. He was rushing the others and that sort of got on my nerves. I wanted to read everything and dump excess junk at the vendors.

Other than that, it was a pretty good experience. For a game that Bradley envisioned as something that would revolutionize multiplayer gaming, like most of his interview, he really exaggerated that point. It is a lot better than the original trash that was released. I can't believe I said that.

Let's hear from more people who have tackled the CE in multiplayer. What do you think?

The multiplayer for CE really needs to be promoted more. The player listing is a lot better as I've seen up to 10 people in the chat area. That's more than zero, which is how many I saw with version 1.3

hmmm... now no matter what you may read in these forums, I must say this game (despite some story & decoration problems) has been one of the best multiplayer LAN (!) rpg's I've seen up to this day.

I guess the game gets boring on single player as it seems half-finished only, and pretty linear at that. Even more so, I can't for my life see it work out with strangers over internet... especially since it's very restrictive about having characters join (or even worse, leave with your quest items), but maybe that's not really what this game was designed for.

I am serious about it though, this game is definetely among the very best LAN rpg's I've seen so far.
I've been a hardcore p&p rpg'er and having a few friends here with similar interests, I got them to come together to play this game through together only. While I sure wish there was more option to influence the outcome, the game still has granted an awesome experience! Graphics are good and once you get used to the controls it's easy and fun to play. The engine has been running most stable (even with v1.0 - save a single door-exit-bug almost getting us stuck), the action is very well balanced and for multiplayer the quests are neither too easy nor too hard - after all in LAN it must be easier, for you really don't want to get stuck. Thing is though, you need some fun people, who don't only play to "win" the game, but also to play their character roles in the group. Often fending of monsters or pushing forward in the storyline was just half the fun, instead I ended ROFL e.g. for things like watching our dwarve chase our elf - with the earlier one having an accidantly fired arrow stuck in his a.... uhm, well you know where ;)

Combat wasn't always easy, but it still allowed you to fool around and play the characters in the party just fine, without having to reload at every other corner like you had in BG, Icewind Dale, NWN, etc... - with an additional good thing being individual inventory and noone in the group 'sticking out' as the primary hero.

It's just sad that the game got more and more empty the further we got; I wish they'd have taken just a little more time to finish it properly, add some more realms and decorations and a little more stuff to discover out there - the game would have become a classic for sure!
Anyway don't touch the game playing it alone, instead go grab some friends and play it over lan and over lan only - you won't regret it ;)

As of today I have a lvl 13 fighter, but I'm willing to start from scratch to get together and hang out with some new people and have fun.

I'm looking for a solid group that's willing to dedicate two or more hours per session. I have no clue if you can save your progress and as a group pick up where you left off before, etc.

I would prefer a melee class but I suppose I could adapt.

I'll check back here within the next few days and see what's happening. I am a hardcore WoW raider so I'm used to putting the time in.

Safe travels,

-Cym

Angel, if your CD-key still isn't working, send an email to the dreamcatcher support team and they'll get you another one that works.

I actually enjoy the multiplayer aspect of this game alot..has a few bugs but for the most part its quite entertaining. However, as of recently I cannot see my friends hosted games in the gamespy lobby, and they can't see mine when I host one. Kind of fustrating, is anyone else experiencing this difficulty or has in the past?
