Need help getting back into the Shadow Ruins

I put the shadow crystal on the alter, saved the game, then went into the ruins. While I was in there, I died and I went to reload. Now the portal will not show and the crystal is still in the alter. Any Suggestions?

Never take an action that causes another action then save. Save first, then place the shadow crystal :o
