Hello,
Sorry for all of the novice questions.
However, I made a simple room and when I placed monsters in it they were giants.
I have never modelled before so I am a complete beginner at this.
Could someone link me to some Painkiller mapping tutorials for complete beginners?
Or, alternatively would anyone be interested in giving me a mini-workshop for Painkiller mapping over AIM or MSN?
In any case,
Thanks alot,
SlatheDoomer

I am using Maya.
And I'm not sure Alias could help me with this sort of question.
Unless of course you're being sarcastic.

All is based on inch (254mm). Therefore for your orientation:
You can jump at 1". You can nearly look over 2". You can pass a door with 3" easy.

The monsters should not be any different in size from the game no matter how much you level is off. You are adding them from the templates section in the bottom right of the editor?
What I did was to make a few test maps and then go into third person and use the player model (which is a box) figure him to be 6 feet tall, make adjustments to my maya teqnique and base future maps on that.
It would be nice to be able to tell you, go into maya and set scale to 14.23 or whatever it should be. To bad maya won't do that.
When playing with scale, make sure you delete the /mopp folder from /data/maps/-mapname- each time you test a new scale or you will have all sorts of problems like falling through and invisible walls.
Edit: I think third person view is
TPP 1
from the console in the editor game
And only Maya 6 will work with the plugin. Not even 6.5, just 6

Thanks for the replies.
I just opened the editor(Maya 6.0).
How can I tell what is 1", 2", 3" and so on?
Is one cube on the grid equal to 1"?
Also, do I have to make my map huge in Maya? Or is there a way to make a map small and then rescale it in the PainEd?
*EDIT*: Yes, I'm adding them from the template. I just think my map was so small that they were huge in it.

I don't know it for Maya but for Max I can adjust the grid to any dimension. Therefore I've done it for Feed and the grid snapping as parts of it - like inch.
But it's not so difficult at all...make a plane and a little cube on it with fixed dimension...ex/import it and see what happens. Then rescale it in Maya in the right order and all is done. Now you can going on.
Rescaling in PE isn't the right way and impossible at least.

Make a plane in Maya 1000 x 1000 maya units
make a cube that sits on the plane 100 x 100 x 100
make another 10 x 10x 10
no need to texture anything or do anything else with lights, etc...
go into 3rd person and walk over to the box that is closer to the player box size.
if the 100 x 100 x 100 box is twice as tall as the player, then 50 maya units would equal 6 feet. If it is 1/4 the size then 400 maya units would equal 6 feet, And so on....
Its best to err on making stuff on the large side rather than small.
