View Full Version : What is with the slums district? [spoilers]

OK, maybe not a big spoiler, but I never entered the slums in previous plays, but after meeting the woman in the garrison district who told me to meet her, I found I needed a password, got the prisoner freed, and then entered the slums ... and despite being there to see the head of the 'guild of mystery', I was immediately and almost continuously mobbed by bats, snakes, rats, goblins and thieves! I have already suspended disbelief over the goblins in the city from the main area, but why would I be getting attacked by thieves in the thief district while on a thief quest!?!?!
Also, when I approached the old mansion, nothing happened at first, then I saw a dialog come up and a vampire flew in ... I have surmised that the lady who wanted to meet me was actually a vampire, but was it supposed to be done better? Or is that crappy appearance pretty much SOP.
Finally, after killing everything in the mansion I found a 'trick brick', but since I immediately smash every crate I can't reach it ... am I missing anything good?
BTW - the mimics are cool!
Mike
It was said the slums became much more dangerous, and I agree.
The vampire appears and disappears, you must wait on her until she is killed.
The loose brick in the back room of the mansion opens a hidden door with 2 chests.

That was a pain ... when she first disappeared it took forever to find her - because she was *invisible*. That was one time I was glad for the spawning, because I was killing theives and all of a sudden saw the health bar for 'Vampiress' ... and then I went at her. The other times it was just a matter of running around a bit until she reappeared ...
The level of 'ghost spawning' in that area was completely out of control (ghost spawning is when you are standing near a spawn point and enemies appear out of thin air)

The spawning gets crazy sometimes and I turn it to lowest setting in those situations. When I just want exp for points, I turn it back up and hack away at stuff. No need running around. They usually find you.
I really liked the challenge the vampire provided. I was playing multiplayer with a friend of mine and it took us a while to kill her and all the bats and junk that spawned around her.
Be careful in Custard Mansion. I had a hard time killing the mimics alone and ended up getting a few mimics and some dog looking thing on me and died several times. The people I was playing online with couldn't even get in to help me because it was a class quest they didn't sign up to do. That was a pain.

You can get into Custar Mansion with any class, just talk to the nice lady in the shop in the slums and tell her you'll go get the map.
Oh, and i generally leave that vampiress alone til my 2nd trip to Fargrove... I tried to kill her on my first trip a couple times and just couldn't manage.

Yes, but to get to the slums involved bailing the guy out of jail, which as a 'lawful good' player I'd never have done.

I tried to fight the vampiress at level 3, I got killed by the spawning monsters, now I'm 21 levels higher so I'm going to kill the B**ch as soon as I can :)

There was a guy near the fireplace at the Inn ... chat him up, perhaps you can still grab the quest.
The quest rewards rock in the CE. Wll, I don't know how much different they are, but they do a better job of *telling* you what you get!
