Yes. I suggest uninstalling the game and deleting the directory in Windows Explorer (normally: c:\Program Files\DreamCatcher\SuperPower 2). That is, if there's one left. If there isn't, reinstall the game and try using your new code.
Before you do that, though:
Use windows explorer and go to c:\Program Files\DreamCatcher\SuperPower 2.
In this directory should be file called Joshuaclient.txt (or something along those lines, definitely something with client in it). Open it in notepad or whatever program you use for textfiles and copy/paste it in this thread. It's possible that the exact reason of your error is listed in there.
While you do that, btw, could you give us your PC specifications? (e.g., AMD Athlon XP2600+, nVidia 8600 256mB RAM, 1024mB RAM, Windows XP)

okay-
my system is compaq AMD Athlon believe 751 MHz (might be faster), NVidia video card (probably older end model) physical mem: 63.51 Mb, Virtual mem:2.0 Gb. I have a feeling this might be the cause of my entire frustrations. be glad to get it up and running cause SP1 is getting too easy to play ;)
Btw, yes i know what the system requirements for the game were but actually thought i had the minimums or at least another system to use but ya know how it goes. :) AGAIN THANKS FOR ALL HELP!

No problem at all :)
I don't know if SP2 will run on your PC, but we can try... Have you checked your SP2 directory to see if there's a joshua_client.txt in there?

Yes i did. all that i found was a couple of weird characters, todays date, time in military format, and some more weird characters.there was another dierectory for joshua that was configure. looks like it was just showing main configure for graphics screen depth so for and so on.

Weird characters?
It should look something like this (although not entirely, since I'm using my mod)

Hmm, renderer.dll has to do with your graphics... do you know which videocard you have? Your videocard must support DirectX 9.0c

Start-menu - run - type "dxdiag" and click OK
On the first tab, look where it says "DirectX-version" and tell us the version there (should be DirextX 9.0c)
Now click on the third tab (which should say "monitor" or "screen" or something) and give us the details from there: name and memory
(something like NVIDIA GeForce 6800, 128.0MB)

Before you answer the first one: Have you updated your video-drivers and given the game access through your firewall?

no, haven't updated yet. is there a website where that can be done? also it is running direct-x version 8.1 (4.08.01.0881). My graphics card is Nvidia Vanta LT with 7.5 Mb total memory.

Hmm, I don't know that videocard, but it definitely looks like it's not supported...
You could try with installing DirectX 9.0c (you can find it at the microsoft.com site) and praying for a few days, but I think you're out of luck with that one. If you know enough about PC's, you might want to buy a (cheap) DirectX 9.0c-compatible card. Over here in Europe, I've seen FX5200's for as cheap as 40€ (but don't expect them to play recent games, though ;))

okay- updated my drivers-now it gives error message of cannot init renderer-make sure you have direct-x 9.0-may have to use video config. utility. whats that and where do i find it?
On the positive side i think its getting closer to wanting to run. may just go and buy a new system since i've had this one a few years.

Well, it's possible that it won't run, no matter what you do, but I have one more trick up my sleeve: the game definitely needs DirectX 9.0c to run. Normally, it needs at least 64mB of video-RAM too, but I've noticed SP2 being pretty forgiving at times, up to a certain point, ofcourse.

Download DX9.0c, install it and try it. If it still gives an error that you need to install it, then it's b/c your pc can't take the game (which means: you're gonna need a better videocard).
If that's the case: it's up to you to decide which one: DX9.0c compatible videocards range from cheap to very expensive. If you only play SP2, I'd recommend a cheaper FX-series card. It's not the best around, but definitely good enough for SP2.
