Hi All, bought Cold War a few weeks ago and came to load it on to my computer today, it loads fine and the intro plays fine but as soon as it tries to go into game mode the speech starts for a couple of words then stops , thenanother couple of words and so on; when you press the movement keys nothing happens then after a few secs a slight movement. All my settings are above recommended req. with plenty of memory,I have splinter cell running with same req. with no prob.
Graphics::: ATI Radeon xpress 200
I tried to contact tech help in the Cold War site but couldn't get in.
Any help would be gratefully appreciated, I also didn't get a CD code but I read in a bit of the forum that they are not issued. The game was bought new from Game Shop.
Thanks
Robert

Unfortunatelly the Cold War has a performance issue on the Radeon Xpress 200 integrated cards. Currently there is no known workaround other than using a standalone graphics card.

The above information is 100% accurate. There is no fix with the Xpress 200 cards. You would require a dedicated video card with a minimum of 64 MB Ram.

Ok thanks! as I am fairly new to this computer stuff , probably a simple question for you, but please bear with me ! what is a "stand alone " graphics and video card, and would it rplace my graphics card?
Thanks

There are a lot of great quality Video cards on the market. Personally I prefer ATI cards because I find that updating them is very user friendly. The card that I use on my own personal machine is a Radeon 9800 and I have had absolutely no problems with the card thus far.
The only thing that I would make sure of is that you get a card that is Direct X 9.0 compatible, And one other thing I would recommend would be for you to purchase a 128mb card or better.
I hope that this information has helped you out and if you have any more questions or concerns feel free to ask.

There are two types of graphics card.
First is a integrated one, like you have. Such "card" or more precisely its chip is build directly into a computer motherboard (the board that connects all components the computer is composed of). The integrated "cards" are very cheap however their performance is ussualy low. In many cases they also have no dedicated memory so they reserve part of computers memory which is then unavailable for the programs.
Standalone cards are physical cards like those (http://images.tomshardware.com/2006/02/13/nvidias_geforce_7800gs_becomes_a_better_buy/together-angle-2.jpg) which are plugged into one from slots that are present on the motherboard. Unlike the integrated cards, there is wide range of standalone cards with different performance characteristics ranging from slow and cheap to very powerfull and costly monsters so you can choose whichever meets your requirements and/or fits inside your budget.
When you insert the standalone card into computer equiped with the integrated card two things can happen depending on the motherboard and its bios.
1) The integrated card may deactivate itself automatically when the standalone card is detected so the computer will appear as if there is only the standalone graphics card.
2) In the second situation, both cards may remain active (you can then configure the Windows to use both of them) with the standalone card usually becoming the one that is mainly used by the Windows for display. In this situation there is often a switch in the bios that allows you to disable the integrated card or select whichever card is used as the main one.
