View Full Version : Graphics Problem

Ok I have a rather odd graphics issue.

First off, I just want to say the game runs FINE, environment looks as it should, weapon models work fine. The problem is with the monster/character models.

The character models seem stretched out, like there touching the sky, rather distorted looking. The model seems waaaay stretched out. But the rest of the games runs flawlessly. I am getting excellent framerate, even WITH this issue, but alas it is unplayable for me due to not being able to see the character models with all the stretching going on.

Everything is up to date, my hardware, and PK drivers as well.

My System Specs Are:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
EVGA 680i Motherboard
EVGA 8800 GTS Graphics Card
2 Gigs DDR2 800mhz corsair memory
700 Watt PSU
Acer 22' LCD monitor with Native Res being 1680X1050 (which PK supports)

I dont understand what the problem is, everything else besides the character models runs fine.

I've never heard about this problem before...
Have you tried other resolutions too? ...some with 1.33 proportion?

BTW...maybe you could make a screenshot?

Hi Maverick, i have the same problem as you(enemy textures 'stretched' all out at the same angle) .the only thing the same in our specs is the 8800 gts card. i have a xfx card with 97.44 drivers. i have tried other resolutions and disabling different graphic settings and using hardware setting for aa and af, etc, but nothing seems to work. the game is patched to version 1.64. i have tried to attach a picture but my forum posting and attachment skills have been overwhelmed :\

Well, Im glad Im not the ONLY person with this problem :) Thanx for the responses.

Yeah, I have a feeling it's an issue with the 8800 gts card, brand new card, might be a little bit too powerful for the game :D

I also have the 97.44 drivers.

I've also tried different resolutions, and different graphics settings. Turning AA on/off etc. etc. (Pretty much tried every combination)

I will post a screenshot tomorrow morning/afternoon for you to see. But it sounds like the same problem. The character models stretch out all in one direction like you said. But everything else runs tits. :D

I hadnt played Painkiller in quite some time, and felt the urge to see how well it looked on my new comp, hopefully I can get it working. But it seems this problem hasnt been addressed yet.

actually I am waiting to see how the ati response works out in Jan before choosing it or the gtx model.

Here are some screenshots of my problem, very frustrating. Notice how everything else looks very clean and smooth, and then only the character/monster models are stretched. I just want to play this game

It's good to see...

This failure I've seen before in a 3D programm like 3dsMax...
It's the result of wrong calculated vertices caused by incorrect arithmetical operations. It's not a texturing failure!

But what could be the reason for this in that case? Maybe the Intel Core 2 Duo?
Disable one CPU in your task manager for the running PK before you start a level and see what happens...

BUT

Hi Maverick, i have the same problem as you(enemy textures 'stretched' all out at the same angle) .the only thing the same in our specs is the 8800 gts card....
I'm afraid it's a problem with this card...sometimes the z-coordinates for some vertices are something like 9999999, means endless

btw, did you reinstall? may be a problem with the inf if it has old settings

brand new system with a core 2 E6600 conroe processor

tried all the diff settings ........ game runs a smooth as silk but the enemy charecters are streched off to the sky, up to the top left of the screen.

Yeah...but because you own both, a core duo and the 8800gtx, we won't know what the real cause is.

Have you tried to disable the second CPU like above mentioned?

I don't know what at least is responsible for this arithmetical error of the z-coordinates of this vertices from the polygone meshes...the CPU or the GPU?

We've 3 guys with the same GPU and 2 with the same CPU...therefore I believe it's a problem of the 8800. Other reason for this...normally the GPU handles the 3D calculations for the polygones in a game like this but I'm not sure if it is the same for moveable objects...

Yeah, I think we can pretty much single out the problem lies within the GPU on the 8800, more than likely anyways. That was my first thought, when I encountered the problem.

Question is, how do we correct it. It seems like it might be outta my hands if it's a somwhat complex error as you mentioned.

I tired contacting Tech support, but havent gotten a response yet. I will try contacting them again and also calling the support phone number.

Has anyone tried playing multiplayer yet with this problem, you kinda have an advantage, considering there is this huge stretched out image that can be seen through walls, letting you know exactly where your opponent is, I had a blast playing with it like that.

Still, I would like to play the single player campaign. The only reason I havent given up on this game yet, is because it's such a good game.

Ok so I unintentionally fixed this problem I was having.

It was one of two things that did it.......

I recently Overclocked my PC to 3.4 GHz ( I dont think this fixed it however)

I ran a driver cleaner utility on my Graphics drivers.

I pretty much un-installed my graphics card and then re-installed everything. I was curious afterwards if Painkiller would still have this problem, so I booted it up and much to my excitement, it ran perfectly.

Hope this works for you. Thanx for all who posted.

(and tech support said they'd "get back to me", havent heard a WORD from them.)

Oh - thx for response - and nice to hear that and now I wish you:

Happy fragging!!! :D

I believe it was this driver trouble thing...

I dont have the new 97.92 driver yet, Im going to download it when I get home. I hope this fixes other issues with the card as well.

I had this same problem with my vid card(8800GTX) it was a driver issue I was running some modded drivers I ended up uninstalled them and installed the officials and the problem was fixed.
