Can't spend collected blood

I can not seem to be able to spend blood that I have collected. I was playing multiplayer, in a private (passworded) game, just trying to get a hang of the game, so I killed off the computer opponent and took over the whole map. I get done and have 50k or so blood...that I am unable to spend to repair my units. Am I doing something wrong? It would seem odd to me that the blood I collect has disapeared into a 'Celestial Blood Bank, from which there is no return.' Help would be appreciated.

You can heal your units with resource (blood) collectors. Once turned on, the healing process will be continuous as long as there is some blood in a blood collector with activated healing order. If you want to use already harvested blood, you should send your blood collector to collect blood from your gene lab.

Thanks, couldnt figure out what I was doing wrong. Apparently the gather resources order does not automatically go away when you try to do that, thus why I couldnt get it to work.
