I was wondering whether you can update to the collectors edition or whether you have to buy the collectors edition to get the extras(I figure you would have to pay for the update and would be willing to so as not to have to buy the game again.).

Sadly, the collector's edition is the logical next patch beyond 1.4. Seeing as how the developer (and publisher) was at rockbottom money wise, releasing a patch as a new version was an attempt to get out of the red. Now that Huristic Park is vertually non-existent, and Dreamcatcher has been bought out, there will be no more forthcoming content for Dungeon Lords.
