'script error'

hello

when i want to save or load a savegame on Painkiller, i get something like this:

this phenomenon started to occur after i finished the Swamp level (C2L6)

- i kill boss
- i get scoreboard
- new tarot card
- !! cutscene BLOCKS right at its start (like 1-2 sec after it started)
- i reset computer (comp was frozen)
- i restart Painkiller
- i want to load game, then i get a script error of that kind
- i do what there is in the window, and i can play.

every time i want to save or load (also autosaves/checkpoints) i get 2 or 3 messages of this kind.

i already removed painkiller, and deleted old savegames manually, but now i fought my way back to the Swamp level, and i get the same errors again. The content of the error windows at the second reinstall is not much different, but it means the same thing.

It is very annoying to play like this.

- version of the game (patched ?)
- OS (Vista ?)
- hardware and drivers

- i have painkiller v1.61
- operating system is Windows xp, sp2
- system specs:
298GB HD
GeForce 7900 GT/GTO 512MB, drivers version 6.14.0010.9147 (as DxDiag says)
AMD Athlon 64 X 2 Dual Core processor 4200+
M2N32-SLIdeluxe motherboard
1GB RAM
soundcard is integrated in motherboard, SoundMAX HD Audio, don't know about the drivers, but i'm going to get an offboard soundcard soon

And the version is 1.61 since U started playing the game (cause older savegames wont work after pathing the game)?

Try to load the last quicksave from the level before Swamp to get a new "startsave" for Swamp. Sometimes quicksaves get damaged and U have to replay the whole level complete or get a new "startsave" with finishing the level before.

I started playing the game with v1.00 till i got the problem i mentionned above.
i removed Painkiller from my computer and reinstalled it.
But i still had the same problem, so i removed painkiller again, and deleted the folder with all the savegames manually.
Then i reinstalled painkiller, and started playing from the start. when i was starting at chapter 2, i downloaded Patch 1.61 and installed it (that was 2 days ago i think), and continued playing painkiller till now. I din't download the next patches.

is that tool the same as the tool here:
http://www.radgametools.com/bnkdown.htm ?
since the link u gave doesnt work (the option 'download file' is grayed out)

Yes the Binkplayer file is the same.

About the patch, does that mean that U have patched the game during playing it? Then thats the problem because (taken from the 1.61 readme):
"NOTE: Version 1.61 includes all changes and enhancements from previous
Painkiller updates. Also note, installing this patch will break
any previous savegames that are not autosaves."

yes i patched the game during playing,
but it says that Autosaves won't be broken:

and how exactly do i check video files with RADTool ?

Check your Savegames folder inside for empty folders....delete them.

I would recommend to apply the 1.62 and 1.64 patch too (gamershell) and replay the game. After U installed the RAD Game Tools the Binkplayer can play all *.bik files (and many more). U will find them in (C:\...\Painkiller\Data\Movies\*.bik). But i guess patching during the game was the problem, so the cutscenes should be ok. U will see.

so i should reinstall painkiller, patch it up, and restart from the beginning?

I know its hard and frustrating but thats what i would do. Maybe it would work without reinstalling the game and just patching 1.61 / 1.62 and 1.64. But U still will have to replay the game.
Or U can try ...

... but since reinstalling and replaying of the game caused the same corrupted savegame it might wont work.
Anyway i would give this a try (before patching the game and replaying it complete again).

my game is now fixed :) i patched everything up, and i deleted the savegamefile that caused the error. i also installed powermad (www.kalme.de/painkiller).
