What is the status of the PK clans?

I see a few folks with clan tags on. What clans have active Painkiller players?

Please include the full name of clans, not just tags (ie, POP tag = Painkiller Only Players or PLC = Painkiller Lady's Club).

Which clan has the best PK players?

Note: If you don't wear a tag when playing, your clan can't take credit for your sick skills. :D

FF is a polish clan with (older) & old school players like WTO, MAC and Vern. Nice people.

I think FF stands for FanaticFactory? Not sure. (Yes it stands for (thx SYS)). :)

OG Clan rocks.

I'm going to go play Apple Cider Spider on my Apple IIe since I can't get on the PC now that it is summer vacation.

And, yeah, my IIe still works. :D

Welcome to the forums, mate. BTW, I have 2 years left, and then I'll be enough old to join to Old Gamers... :D Till then I'll stick with our 90% inactive MK-funclan... :)

Very nice to hear that mate... :)

Yes, only HeGe and me used to play recently, You already played with us a lot actually, though You usually didn't know about that (I usually play hours every day, I never was inactive, I was just "sneaking and hiding in the darkness" :D)... :D But I haven't played at all in June and I'm going to return just hopefully next week. HeGe has reinstalled PK onto Vista last week, I was there when He was playing a bit..He was a bit rusty after months of inactivity, but started feeling it better after a few matches... :)

Dark has removed the MK-section these days but it will be back in the near future with hopefully a bit more activity... :) We both will play under our real nicks and with the MK-tag, so You will find us easily online... Hopefully this will be yet another summer like last year when we played and laughed a lot together with Tomi... :D

Actually there's a few problems with Vista, so it's not perfect. HeGe has the 64 bit version, and that is even more into security. The security features cause "problems" for PK...

About "OG-style is being rusty", I don't think so. You can improve only if You care and think of how You play. You must think about Your own gameplay and You must be able to change, that is key... ;) I mean OG can rock, if OG wants... :) But the most important and why You have all my respect is that You enjoy the game anyway and You're always nice in the Arena, no matter what happens (players should follow this attitude)... ;)

Well, good news Sudden, but I think You were still lagging last time. I mean You were slow and not smooth somehow... :( Maybe something was bad with the ISP again? How wide Your bandwidth is (download/upload)? However ADSL is the way to play online...

To be ontopic: http://mainkillers.darkscorner.de/ (http://mainkillers.darkscorner.de/) - I think it's high time to share the link here, I always forgot so far. The site is still in development though, but it's a funclan, so nothing is urgent and nothing is serious. For me it means some very close Friends online and therefore I wanted to keep it alive. And MK means MainKillers not Mortal Kombat... :D :D :D

Hi Sys,

i played with cable (2mbit) the last month. since movement i have a 4 mbit dsl connection. i also recognized that i lost smootheness, maybe i shouldn't play with itunes on :). that slows down my whole pc. but i need music while playing :D

SYS
07-27-2007, 01:32 PM
...a voice from the darkness.....

Oh, I see...

Well, Cable suxx bad time, that's a fact. It produces ping-flux always, and You can't aim and move properly with unstable ping (the server gets the infos about You almost "randomly"). My Cable produces here +-100 flux in every 20-40 seconds, periodically, and some packetloss also. I think Yours was the same or quite similar. And it's even worse if You share the connection with others...

ADSL is the way to play online, 4 MB sounds awesome... :) I recommend to close every programs what are not necessary while playing PK. Do You know how many icons I have on my TaskBar near the clock? FOUR. :D The network-icon, the amp, the SetPoint-icon, and RefreshLock's icon. I hate running 50 programs in the background... :D

Maybe You think You need music while playing, but remember that may affect Your gameplay heavily. You won't hear the opponents properly and You won't be able to concentrate that well. Plus playing MP3/WMA/OGG/etc. in the background uses up some system resorces too, so yes, that lags You too... I also played sometimes with Winamp running and playing MP3s in the background, but just rarely and for a funny challenge... :)

Also, how many in OG. Just curious.

SuddenCane

@ PeTjA and SYS: thx a bunch :)

@uuber: I had a better ping with cable connection. sometimes 15 depends on server. my ping with dsl is higher but it seems to be another gameplay. faster ...

or i am too old :D

SYS

...a voice from the darkness.....

Cable produces lower ping but with high flux. When I ping any Hungarian server (not a game server, just let's say an online game/news-magazine), I get pings BETWEEN 12 and 50-60, it jumps up periodically and it always fluctuates around the lowest values too (so like 12-14-12-13-16-12-15-12-14-etc.)... When I do the same at HeGe's PC (who has ADSL), He gets arouns 30 ping, but it's almost ALWAYS 30, no higher, no lower (when it "goes up" it's 31 for another long time). So that's total stable...

The game is faster with DSL, that's sure, and You can be more accurate with weapons. Due to the stable ping. This is why I always say that not the ping itself matters, but how it fluctuates. My 35 ping is an illusion, because it's between 29 and 49 in the game very often and I know it actually fluctuates even more (pinging anything from a DOS-box), just the game doesn't display that somehow (maybe it counts with averiged pings?)... If someone has even 60 ping but with a stable DSL-connection, that still can be better than a jumping 30...

So why it's faster and why it's more accurate? Simply because the server gets Your infos always in the right time! When Your ping is always 30 and there's only a small flux (like +-5-6 max.) produced by PK itself, the server gets the infos with the same delays always and that never changes... With high flux, You can imagine what happens when Your ping is once 30 and once 70 during playing: the server gets infos with different delays, the "lag" is never constant. That confuses the player in timing while aiming (this is why the player misses a lot of hits then), and that also means that even if You press SPACE (to jump) at the right times, that may be delayed also..and..speed-loosing, falling down from platforms due to not jumping in time, and so on... Naturally this also may mean that the player gets the infos from the server "randomly": this is why I often can see that ALL my opponents are warping. In that case that's my connection only, not theirs. Naturally that means I'm also harder to hit than others and I'm warping also sometimes (often? dunno for sure). With higher flux the server gets the infos in a chaotic way, not continuous like with a stable DSL-connection...

I remember Tweety (from Germany) told me that He couldn't move earlier with Cable-connection properly. I searched for Hungarian gaming-forums too to see what other players say. They said the same: ADSL is is rather recommended for online gaming. And finally I can say the same: I played with BOTH ADSL and Cable, and ADSL was far-far better...

To test Your ping on any connection, close all programs and start a DOS-box in Windows, and type: ping <IP-address> -n 100 - this is the best and easiest method to test Your connection's stability. This pings the desired IP-address 100 times. If You want to write it into a file then add >pingfile.txt to the above mentioned line. Naturally You may choose any other filename. Also make sure that You're NOT using up anything from Your bandwidth while pinging! No downloads, no XFire, nothing what can disturb the test...

Finally I must admit that ADSL was better here for browsing webpages and downloading files too, because it was more stable. With Cable I often lost the connection while uploading something via FTP, what was very annoying. But maybe it's rather just the ISP... The only thing I like in Cable is that it offers a wider upload-bandwidth... :)

Sorry for being OFF, I promised I stopped explaining this technical side of online gaming from now... (fingers crossed) :D

what i realized the last days is a fluctuant fps rate. i have a almost stable ping (around30) but an unstabel fps rate. sometimes it alternates between 90 and 27 (!). this change happens for a short time, but makes you unable to move fast and smooth (as you said).

i do not know where it comes from. first i recognized it with my cable connection. there where fps drop downs to almost zero for seconds (and it happend while my pc did something .... i do not know what, but he needed computational power for something) :D

the problem still exists, but with fewer effects on gameplay.

i think i need to reinstall everything new.
maybe i have to much trash on my pc.

Yes, FPS is often unstable for anyone recently. I mentioned this to Sk1p too, He told me He also never gets stable FPS, just like me. Mine is jumping between 80-125, it rarely drops down below 80, but it's almost never stable. And I'm getting hangups and sometimes repeating sounds while playing (like I shoot once with the Shotty and I can hear that 2-3 times then o_O)... That may be the server too, or I don't know... Medic told me maybe a week ago that He is getting constant 125 FPS while we were playing..mine was jumping at the same time, it was not stable. And we have almost the same config, only our connection is different and He has an Audigy2 whilst I have "just" an Audigy1. No idea about these things and I doubt a Windows reinstall solves them, however it worth a try, definitely...

There's one thing however what I noticed: smooth players who are getting stable FPS are EASIER to hit, whilst those who are suffering from FPS-drops seem to be warping usually...

We should change the topic's name: "Members from active clans are talking about tech-issues, yay!"... :D

Good as place as any I guess for this:

I spec'd SYS on a US server recently and noticed his chaingun shots lagged behind his target about a player model width back, or slightly less. When he was tracking his opponent he was consistently trailing with his chain shots. Missing. I could clearly see him aiming and shooting behind his opponent.

He said he thought he was on target. Then they played on a EU server and the tracking was pretty much on target the whole match with chain from my spec view.

Now, that doesn't sound like lag. It sounds like broken code. What you see should be what you hit. Your view, even if delayed 150-200ms, should allow hits based on what you see in your game. Local to you. It should not show you a hitbox 200 ms out of sync with where the game registers your target.

This isn't news to most of us but I was very surprised to see in SPEC what I suspected and experience everytime playing with high ping.

Does anyone know if SPEC "sees" what is really happening, what the game registers? Because it was different from what the player could see. Or at least it seems so.
