View Full Version : Odd Bricks?

I just recently picked up the Collector Edition of this game. I've run into a problem that I'm not sure how to fix? I've seen two bricks in the game so far that would appear to be different... they aren't flush with the wall and they look like switches or something. However, I can't interact with them. Is there a skill or something (Scout?) required to be able to "use" them or are they simply broken in this version of the game? :confused:

One was in the Theater on the upper level. The other was in the Catacombs underneath the Temple in Fargrove. I'm restarting because I messed up badly on skill purchases, so I'll try getting to the one in the Theater with enough points to buy some levels of Scout and see if that makes them useable. That's the only thing I can think of to try.

I had my Thrall's scout lvl up to 5 when I noticed those bricks... I think they're just bricks. Nothing noticable happend when I shift-clicked them.
BTW. I'm working on beefing up my rouge and gaining one of the oriental classes. But I think I oofed up. Is Trickster considered a second Or third tier class? I've read the walk-through but am still a little confused:confused:
I think I have to start over (again) cuase i took on the quest for the Guild of Mages (now filling up three class slots), eliminatng my chances of gaing an oriental class! Pucker nutz!!

Hmmm, how do they "show up" with Scouting?
As for classes, doing the Oriental and Female class quests don't take up a slot. You get 5 classes total. If you started as a Rogue and then join the Mage guild, you have 2 core classes (Rogue and Mage). By completing the Oriental quest you'll get oriental class options of tier 2 and 3 within the Rogue and Mage options. Trickster IS a tier 2 class, so if you wanted a tier 2 Oriental Rogue class, you'll have to re-do it, as you can only pick one tier 2 Rogue class. If you wanted a tier 2 Oriental Mage class, then you simply have to do those quests and then pick the appropriate class. However, your last class (tier 3) can only be one that becomes available based on your two tier 2 choices.
Example: Adept->Mage->Paladin->Battlemage->Warlock
Adept and Mage are the two core classes. Paladin and Battlemage are the tier 2 classes. Warlock is the tier 3, and made available by choosing Battlemage. Paladin would have permitted Crusader I think. By doing the Oriental quest(s), I could switch it around to something like this...
Adept->Mage->Monk->Sorcer->Shaolin(sp?) Master
Monk and Shaolin Master are made available within the Adept path by completing the Oriental quest. Of course, the Oriental Fighter classes open up as well. However, you can only pick ONE Oriental tier 2 and tier 3 class, so I can't do the following as both tier 2s are Oriental classes:
Adept->Mage->Monk->Shugenja->Shaolin Master
The sisterhood (female option) is a little different. It doesn't match up with a "core" class, but you can choose the tier 2 and 3 options there instead of those for one of your core classes, like so...
Adept->Fighter->Paladin->Valkyrie->WarWitch

It appears that the higher your scout skill the more defined and detailed things become... Background becomes more vivid, and foreground becomes more detailed...
I've a lvl 40 Dwarf Adept>Mage>BattleMage>Clestial>Shadowlord
And I've a lvl10 Thrall Rogue>Mage>Trickster...
It's the Thrall I wish to obtain Oriental class status with.
The Dwarf I've completed the Tiger and Dragon quests and recieved the heraldry bonus's...
So the Trickster is 3rd tier(?) Which would recquire me a startover:mad: if I wish to obtain Boduka or Shugenja 2nd tier... (right?)

Hmmm, I don't see that effect at all. I can see the brick sticking out of the wall even with 0 Scouting. The ones I noticed became "clickable" when I had Scouting of 2. I've used a character editor on a temporary save and given myself 10 Scouting and not seen any in-game difference besides the Bricks. I think it makes things show up on the MiniMap like chests and crates. But they don't go away after you "use" them, which is strange. Also, enemies show up as red dots, but everything else (bricks, chests, etc) is yellow, which makes the detail rather pointless. It did help me locate at quest giver between the elven fort and Arindale, so it's not entirely useless.
I'm not sure how many points I'll need to see Bricks later in the game... hopefully not many.

So how do you use a character editor and where can I obtain one? I think the extra images of detail I noticed where after i changed my montiors resolution...? I also meddled with the games option for shadow reduction and detail mafnification.

Over in the GameBanshee Dungeon Lords forums it is a sticky post with the latest version. Direct link. (http://www.gamebanshee.com/forums/dungeon-lords-93/new-dl-saved-game-editor-dungeon-lord-game-72087-p5.html)

Be warned though... I've seen strange things with my character ever since I started using that program. At one point I somehow ended up with two melee weapons equipped in the same slot. I unequiped one to find another underneath it, but it didn't show up on the character. I also completed the Enchantress quest and got the confirmation message in game, but the class was not actually added to my character. I also lost 2 full levels somewhere, but I can't for the life of me imagine where. I was nearly level 9 when I went after the Enchantress quest, but when I returned and got the confirmation message I noticed I was suddenly level 6. :eek: Maybe the sorcereress boss I fought for that quest had some kind of level drain attack... I dunno. It's not all that bad though, as I didn't loose any ADV points I don't think, and all my skills stayed the same, so I'm level 6 with level 9-ish skills. :rolleyes:
I started out trying to only use temporary saves for editing, just to try things out. But the further I went along, and the more frustrated with the game I became, I started using it on a regular basis just to try and finish the game. I'm not sure that will matter though, as I have a new batch of games showing up tomorrow that will probably push this one aside.

Back to the bricks....
The one in the theatre does do something, it's just not obvious. A hint is to back-track to where you've been before and look for something new. If you want the answer, consult the excellent GameBanshee walk-through.
I don't remember exactly what the catacombs one does, but, in general, a lot of the bricks do activate something that isn't immediately obvious when you push it.
On the subject of when the bricks become "active", I believe in the CE it does depend on your Scout skill level, whereas pre-CE it didn't as Scout wasn't even available.
