I'm a newbie to computers so I pretty much have to ask: would a GF 8800 GTS 320mb work with Genesis Rising?

While I'm pretty sure there shouldn't be any problems, I thought it better to ask than to regret it later.

And can vista premium/ultimate work well enough with games?

The card should work with the game. The minimum requirement, as shown on the bottom of the game's box, is that of a Nvidia GF 4200 video card. So, in theory, all newer cards should work. However, my Nvidia 7950 GT is not being properly handled by the game. Basically, it boils down to lack of support for the newer Nvidia cards, and you'd think that Dreamcatcher would be kind enough to send us an e-mail about this just after we registered the game. Something on the words of "thank you for purchasing our game, at the moment, we are having issues with so and so video cards. Just as soon as we release a patch, we'll let you know."
Doesn't take but a few seconds to e-mail that, and it can be auto-generated and mailed.
I wouldn't let your purchase rely on whether it will work with this game or not. This is the first game I've ran across that I've had video issues with. Plus, don't let this 40 dollar game stand in the way of you getting that 300 dollar Nvidia 8800 card. There are too many other games out there that you'll be able to enjoy with that 8800 Nvidia card. In fact, I've noticed games I've played in the past on other Nvidia cards, look brand new again with more vivid visualizations with my new Nvidia card.
If you haven't bought this game yet, and you see another game you want, I'd get the other game first. Then, keep checking here to see if a patch has been released before buying Genesis Rising.

Hehe... seems like you were pretty mad about the video card issues. Thanks for the quick reply!

My main concern was whether there would be compatibility issues with games if I don't use the correct video card or something. It's a relief that most games works with the simple, "the better card, the better the quality." Whew!

Now, I've yet to figure out whether I should go for vista or xp. Although I would like to work in a vista environment, I hear that vista sucks the life out of games.

TOTALLY WRONG.

Vista, with a computer above 2gb of ram will gain a HUGE boost. the 8 series are also DX10 which is VISTA ONLY Vista can run all games with at least DX8. You should be fine, and will run into problems when using your card in XP.
