Error message upon entering the Lab

After I finish shooting all the bad guys in the courtyard, I go to the checkpoint to enter the next phase and the screen goes light blue followed by the ever famous this program is not responding and will now close...any help out there?
I've had no other problems with either painkiller game until now.

Try to start the level again or, if you failed again, load your last save before...
