I was doing a litlle cleaning up. I decided to Uninstall the Painkiller Demo via Control Panel > Programs Features (Vista version of Add Remove).

When I selected Pkiller demo and clicked Uninstall, that paranoid schizo Steam In-your-face-interface opened and downloaded something @ 128KB which took about 3 minutes and installed something, I have no idea what.

I closed it, went back to Cpanel and Unistall again and it prompted me to wait until another program was done - Steam. I waited while the harddrive worked feaverishly doing something. When it stopped after about 10 minutes, I went back to Cpanel - same prompt - wait. Exited Steam but when I looked in Task manager, it was sneakily still running in there. I closed it. same prompt in Cpanel - wait.

I re-started and went to the Steam interface and went to Forums and a popup said I was banned - permanently because I was a pirate. Hmm, if I was I would bring Steam to is vapour knees. But I'm not and can't. As a matter of fact, when I first unkowingly sold my soul to them it was when I bought HL Episode 2 and it wouldn't run after install. I contacted them and grudgingly did their bidding. I bought a scanner, scanned in a pic of the back of the manual, the CD and cover, receipt and emailed that back as proof after which, they sent me a in-the-box generic reply about Firewall settings. I managed to get it to work myself any way.

Having vented all that, you can bet I will NEVER buy anything that is any where near assiociated with Steam, vapor, or hot water - nothing. They take out their paranoia on the client, not the crooks.

Now, to get the Painkiller demo off without Steam getting in the way. BTW, it's not showing in Steam > My Games. I can't even remember where I got the demo. Probably via Steam. I don't want to Uninstall Steam because I still have HL2-Ep1 and would bet that removing Steam means losing the HL2-EP1 as well.

Too bad - I like PK and HL2 but not enough to give away my computer to those people suffering delussions @ Steam.

Loved the PK game though - what a hoot. Maybe one day when they can disassociate themslves from Steam and I can afford a $400. graphic card and upgrade the Power supply to handle it all.

Im confused. See i know that Painkiller GoldEdition is aviable via steam. I also know that Painkiller got 3 Demos (2xSingleplayer and 1xMultiplayer). But none of them use steam afaik.

So my first question would be wich demo Ur talking about? Another question, if U had installed the demo into Ur PK-directory steam or PK steam into the demodirectory? Both might confuse the game. Actually i think it would not run well in this case, causing crashes etc.

Im using XPSP2 not Vista but maybe someone has a clue if this can be a reason for Ur problem.

But most curious thing is that a (wich) demo should come via steam.

As I've read this word "Steam"...all my red lights were going on
One piece of advice from an "old" gamer:

NEVER touch STEAM...this was so 15 years ago like till nowadays too.

BTW: you haven't to install for e.g. HL2 STEAM...(maybe for MP - don't know)

and PK/BooH has nothing to do with that STEAM-spam which is working more like a virus or spyware
