I'm not sure if it's because of Windows Vista, but for some reason I can't install Painkiller on my new laptop. It doesn't read the CD, or autoplay. Does anyone have any advice?

I have an Hp dv6000 series laptop. I tried other games, and they worked. I'm pretty sure it's not the disc, since I tried it on another computer and the installation wizard came up automatically.

I remembr having this issue with my PC long time ago. The strange thing is i had it not from the beginning, so i guess some hard/software update messed it up. :(

Since i bought the DVD version too (wich worked fine) i never solved the problem at all.

I was checking HP´s site to see if i can find any informations about a drive that doesnt recognise the CD/DVD. All i found was this (actualy not for Vista) but maybe U get some inspiration:

Also i remember someone mentioned to burn all 3 CD´s on 1 DVD (use the other PC wich can read the CD´s). So maybe the laptop will read this DVD and U dont have to change all CD´s during installation. :o

I think I'll try burning them to a DVD. Are there any other options?

It's all very weird, though. I just tried the other 2 discs and they work fine with the laptop, but it's only the first disc, the one needed to start the installation, that doesn't work on the laptop.

Im running out of ideas. I still see me sitting there for 1h putting the CD into the drive and taking it out and then (god knows why) the drive readed the CD by luck. Maybe its a driveissue. Maybe security software on the CD ... im not sure, sorry. :(

I would give the 3CD to 1DVD a try. Good luck. ;)

This comes along with the fact that the first CD have had a copy protection (with random failure art).
Some CD drive were/are incompatible with that (or because of getting dirty for the CD reading head over the years < @PeTjA)

If you can copy this CD on your HDD then you'd be able to mount all 2 CD's with Daemon tools.
Otherwise the DVD burning would be the right way.

I had the same trouble.
I set compatibility mode to WinXP sp2 and then ran setup.exe as Administrator.

Game works fine.

Thx for that hint...sometimes it's very difficult to detect a cause without to own Vista and/or a Laptop too.
