I posted this in another place as well...
Despite the issues reported about DL, I like the game overall...
I have only played THROUGH Fargrove so far (Solo), but want to try multi-player. I'm an old hand at RPG - Started with D&D in the 1970's... and I'm a network engineer for work, so I'm going to try to make a DEDICATED Dungeon lords server, that will run on it's own system. I had no trouble running DL/CE on a dual 866MHZ PIII system with FX5700 Nvidia. I have not had any major issues with the CE version. - BUT I run a *VERY* stripped Win2K OS that only reuires 60MB ram to boot in, so my other 2.6GHZ system blows most new computers away for playable game speed. I suggest most people make a dual boot system with 2 O/S installs - 1 for "stuff" and 1 for games. That way you can minimize the amount of junk running in Memory.
*ALSO* HUGE improvement to run 2 hard drives- and partition them. you can gain 40-150% HDD access increase by having Windows on one drive and Games on another. The smaller the drive paritions, the faster the game will run. (Applies mainly to the first partition you make)
I have 1 "REAL" copy and 3 I bought at walmart last week for $9 to use as LAN keys. I'm going to try one of them to see if the code is good or not.
I have a UT2004 server now, so I am familiar with hosting games. I'll let you know what success I have with the "dedicated server" idea. Let me know if any are interested in this project...??
