help with mimics

Every time I try and fight one of the mimics in Custard Mansion all they do is attack for half a second then turn back into a chest with no options to do anything else. Any ideas as to what is wrong?

Some of your abilities are too high, particularly the bottom section. You're probably absorbing too much of the mimics energy.
