Hawdy all,
Penewab from Maine here. I've been hammerin away on PK for a while now and getting through pretty good. Real fun stuff. I had a few questions though, and forgive me if they've been answered in the forum somewhere, but I've looked and couldnt quite find exact answers.

1) I'm in Nightmare Level up to "Docks." I ran though the first stage a few times, going nuts and second stage same, by the 3rd I'm low on health, so I figured I'd go back and try again to enter 3 in a better situation. When I re-started the level, I noticed I had 2 new weapons!!! One is what looks to be a short range launcher with a flame thrower on the 2nd side. The other weapon looks like a scoped 6 barreled hunting rifle (LOL) that shoots darts. The 2nd side I forget, but anyways my question:

Where'd these things come from? I went back to an earlier level and they weren't there. Some how some way, they appeared on a retry? I thought I may have changed to Trauma or something, but nope, still in nightmare. My next question is, whats the ammo box(s) look like? When I first realized I had them, they were empty. Nothing zilch. By the middle of the first stage, I had somehow picked up a little ammo, but had only seen the usuals. Anyways, I'm just curious if its a bug or something planned within the PK framework.

Subject change:
Also, I didnt realize there was another 10 levels in the Bat out of Hell. Do you got to buy the whole Black edition to get it? I mean, I started with Special edition, which I loved so got the full PK. Seems pretty wasteful though, to go get another full game just to get the Bat out of Hell. Probably will if thats what I'm left with, I think PK may be my favorite (I've got them all, just about.)

So thanks for your time, hope to help out in the future, Peace,

PenewaH!

Never mind the Gold edition question, I didnt realize you can get it for $10 off Steam , probably cheaper of Ebay. Thanx, Penewah!

Well a little more digging, and I found the answers I was looking for. I don't know if this has been posted anywhere's but Steam has a great manual available, or copied I don't know:

http://www.steamgames.com/Manuals/3200/manual.pdf

It still didnt show me what SMG/Flamer & Bolt/MultiBomb ammo boxes look like, but I'll find them.

Peace, Penewah!

:DLively forum

These are the two new weapons from Battle out of Hell. They are not supposed to be in the original PK levels, but sometimes this happens due to various reasons (it's a bug).

You picked up some megaboxes that contain ammo for every weapon. There are no specific ammo boxes for these weapons in any of the original PK levels.

Oh c'mon, sometimes the most obvious things in life (and hel/l in this case)are the most evasive things in life. Daniel G. is that wimpering little F&%k moaning to the tall spooky dude, leaving me to shoot his way out of purgatory, and taking all the credit!!! LOL.

Anybody using an 8800GT in PK yet, wondering what kind of frames they be gettin!?

I have a 7900gtoc and I can run the game on all maximum settings with smooth frame rate so I am sure the 8800 will pwn this game.

Yeah I'm clanin away with a 7950GT myself, thought I might actually get one, seeing how its a better bang for the buck compared to the more expensive GTS. My BFG7950 hasnt let me down yet, so I may sit on it abit and wait for the MIRs and price wars, right now people are buying the 8800GTs up so fast, I've read the Cos are actually jackin them up right now.

So is Overdose on the same scale, not gonna need more juice? I played the demo and it played a.o.k. so I suspect not.
Thanx, Penewah!

I have an 7800GT and Overdose runs very smoothly in 1024x768 with every option set to maximum (except character shadows and multisampling, which I both turned off). There are some levels like Ragnarok which stress your machine more than others, but even in those I never get below 40 fps (according to Fraps) - it's very playable.

My 7900gt is actually overclocked manually by me and I RARELY get framerate hitches unless there are a lot of enemies and effects going on at the same time. For instance, when I played the first level last night, there was a LOT of haze effects going on and couple that with the fire effects of the enemies and whatnot with all the action going on, my FPS might have dropped a LITTLE bit but not enough to hinder gameplay. Hell, I can run the game FEAR on high settings no problem and that game is a system hog itself.

I would sit on the 7800/7900's for a while until it is absolutely necessary that you upgrade because I think these will last us a good while, though we might not be able to play newer games like Crysis on max but we can still run the games and have them look good regardless. Stick with it.

I play @1600x1200 with all the options maxed out (including 2 x multisampling, trilinier & character shadows "on") using a FX-60 (@3.09GHz) and overclocked 7900GT's in SLi. I was surprised that a 3+ year old engine can drag my frame rates down so much... I had a few instances when I dropped to 27fps for brief periods last night although normally I'll be around 90~130+fps.

kalme, you probably don't get the amount of hitching I saw because of the lower resolution (1,133,568 less pixels to render at your resolution) and lack of AA you use (plus I assume you're using bilinier and not trilinier).

It's always running just in case I want to record (= video) something spontaneously.

Wow, you run that game with really insane settings... must be great to watch.

What hitching? Btw. in fact, I use trilinear filtering, it's no performance hit.

Wow, you run that game with really insane settings... must be great to watch.I was using 4x AA (multi-sampling) but it was taking too much of a hit on the fps and besides, 2x AA is more than adequate @1600x1200. That said, having the setting cranked up (maximised) improves a number of things in Overdose - I can see those camouflaged ammunition boxes more easily. Watch?... most of the time (in this Overdose) I'm too busy fighting off the hoards of monsters that keep coming at me :D

What hitching? Btw. in fact, I use trilinear filtering, it's no performance hit.Hitching is just another way of saying "my rig struggles with maintaining a decent frame rate sometimes". Sorry I get into a bit of trouble with using terms unfamiliar with the audience I'm addressing. My girlfriend is Ukrainian and I often forget that English isn't her first language... at times I'm greeted by a blank look from her

PS. Playing through the first chapter of Overdose reminded me of Serious Sam 2 (with the HDR option turned on). The tall bony monsters in Overdose look very similar to the skeletal ox/bull (or whatever they are) in SS2. In addition, the new yellowish-brown gun is quite familiar as well. Couple this with certain areas in Overdose where the monsters just keep on in spawning gives it a very "Serious Sam - let's see how many monsters we can render on-screen at the same time" feel about it.

So was your post from me :D.

reminded me of Serious Sam 2

I think Belial's voice acting and e.g. the Desert level also adds to this.

Hey Blaise, any chance of you posting some screenshots? I'd really like to see OD in all it's glory. :)

I'll see what I can do over the next week or so. I've finished OD over the weekend... I'm going back to complete the challenges that I missed.

Interesting. I play at 1280x1024 with ALL (means multisampling 6x and anisotropic filtering 16x) on Athlon64 X2 4200+ (@2420MHz) and overclocked Radeon HD 2600XT in single and it runs smoothly.:D
