As near as I can tell, it's a software bug. i.e. It's a problem with Genesis Rising and not with your machine. It only seems to happen when you kill a ship that has another ship docked with it. It's a pain to play around this but as soon as I stopped targetting motherships until I was sure nothing was docked with them, I stopped having this problem.

As for a patch, don't hold your breath. This bug has been around since the game came out. The most recent patch (which is months old now) didn't address the issue and there's been nothing forthcoming about a new patch. Hell, these boards aren't even monitored enough to move posts to the correct forum (as evidenced by the number of posts about other games in Genesis Rising forums) so I suspect that the developers/company isn't interesting in addressing anything Genesis Rising anymore.

This game will always need patches just like any other game. You are foresighting the developers as being lazy and abandoning the game and not helping out. I think this is not the case. These problems take longer and if it takes a year to make it, so be it. Better to have it right then to have it create more problems.

Cheers~

To allow the game to ship with such a glaring and debilitating flaw on such a vast array of systems (if not potentially all) is bad enough. That they have yet to fully correct that same problem to this day is pretty much inexcusable.
