Can't get into Arindale

Posting here because its busier and would like an answer.

I've read the walkthrough (relevant part anyway, don't wanna spoil the game for myself) and scanned the first 3 or 4 pages of the forums, can't find anything about it, but basically, I can't get into Arindale.

When I arrive, an elf guard (from behind the gate) just say 'get lost' or something and then goes into dialogue, and he asks about a writ. Which I don't seem to have. So can't get through the gates at all.

I've done all I think I can do in the beginning city, including getting the pass from the King (obviously) but even tho my 'quest' now takes me to Arindale, to speak to someone on the Kings orders, I'm stuck.

What have I missed? Feel free to abuse me, coz its been annoying the hell out of me for days. (back and forwards, reboot, do it all again etc)

ok, kept running around, and realised there was a tower out in the water, which I didn't see to begin with coz of my shitty resolution, so now all is solved after I swam out there and back again.

Arindale is mine at last.

you have to kill this ghost that is in a tower across the lake when u do go up the ladder and talk to the elf spirit and then swim back then they will let you inside of the town.:)
