I don't know the right way to get there, but I go to the edit frinds list link and all the account modifaction links appear on the left.

To get an avatar the "right way", you can go to user cp, and then look on the side and click on edit avatar. I don't know why my avatar is a teddy bear, I just thought it was cute!!! :D;)
