Hello all...I bought the game wed. oct. 23 and I soon had some of the same problems everyone else sems to have.
You might have seen some of my posts.
The problem was the crash back to Desktop after the "play game" splash screen allowed me to slect "play Ironstorm". So I filled out the online form and would you believe it? A Dreamcatcher tech. called me at hoome Friday and gave me the advice I needed to run the game, it is running bug free and is quite good so I say hats off to DC for at least following up. He also went on to say that they are working on a patch and expect it out within 3 weeks.
The help : my vid got a little screwed up, the screen icons took on rough edges etc. after DLing the DX 8.1 they had on the CD. So, I went to (it was actually my suggestion) Nividia web page ad DLed the latest driver for my card, I urge you whatever card you have to go to your Vid card Manufacturers page and do so, it makes it easier if you need the DX 8.1 on the game CD to intergrtae it. I also went to the Microsfot site and DLed thier 8.1 refreshing/fixing the 8.1 etc. anything that may not have DLed right from the game disk. (Remember, if you DL a DX Upgrade there is no going back except by reinstalling the operating system again, you cannot overwrite an upgrade in DX, so if you are not sure if you need it, try without first). The Vid. problem went away.
His biggest help was telling me to pull ALL USB or FireWire wires from their ports. I have a Belkin custom Mouse and Keypad, I wasn't crazy about not using the devices in the game but what the hell.
In any event, the game started up and is playing beutifully.
The game is prety darn good, great architecture, design and is really immersive. Atmosphere is great. I am glad I stuck with it and tried support instead of taking it back. For those that the above suggestions don't help, I would wait a few weeks for the patch before giving up on the game.
I am going to post this in the Tech. forum so don't trip if you see it again.
