Freeze

Have a problem with the game. I installed a new hard drive and reinstalled everything with the latest drivers. Now when I load the game I get as far as the opening menu after the intro movies before the game completely freezes my computer and I have to reboot the whole system. This freeze is also accompanied by a high pitched squeal. The game ran perfectly before I had to replace my hard drive. I've updated every driver I can think of but the problem still continues. My system is:

512Mb PC-2700
ATi Radeon 9700 Pro
SoundBlaster Audigy Gamer
Direct X 9
