Well the game i've been waiting for finally arrived and i bought it the very first one from EB on the the 23. I was giddy like a little schoolgirl to have my copy and raced home to install it, after all the concept of the game kix ***, right? and to immerse myself in that alternate universe was going to be pure bliss
or so i thought...
these last few days i have been racking my brains, trying to figure out what I had ****ed up because the game would not work....
But let me digress for a sec. My system is a 1.2 gHz AMD athlon, running win2k sp3, 2 HDs (a 30 Gb and a 100 Gb), 512 Mb RAM, 64 MB Geforce Ti 400, logitech optical mouse, a 52X LG CDROM, a microsoft internet keyboard, 19" mon, etc...(anymore relevant info needed?)
anyhoo, eagerly i popped the CD1 into my CD drive, waited for the autoplay to kick in...
it did, i was happy...but they do say ignorance is bliss...it flashed the install screen THEN
crashed to desktop being replaced by a little gray box INSTALLSHIELD error 1607: Unable to Install InstallShield Scrtipting Runtime
!!!!! WTF is this i thought....oh great i forgot to update my windows installer i thought...
wait a minute! i never knew i ever had to update the installer...oh well...maybe if i did (which i did do)all that gaming goodness will finally be mine....LMAO Honest to God and Everything Holy i have tried everything...i tried installing at least 30 times but finally gave up.
i tinkered with my Registry looking under HKEY_Local_machine...blah blah blah and looked at that certain setting that's suppose to be set to 0, it was....I emailed Installshield asking what to do...no reply yet. I still thought i was the only headcase with maybe a ****ed up CD...i returned and tried again...nope
Then the idea crept up on me...maybe
just maybe i got a hold of one of those games that you only hear about...the infamous beta release thinly disguised as a finished product. MY OPINION is that those wise *smirk* gaming gurus set loose upon us another bug ridden game. And after forking over 55 of my hard earned dollars, at the very least i expect a game that will run.IS that really too much to ask for, but what do you guys truly care? u got my money, you've been paid for your work, grab the money and toss out some measly patches for what? a month? maybe 2? right?
I truly think all of you game developers should take a good look at some other companies that do put out some incredible products-Blizzard and Bio-Ware for a key example of how it's done. sure they had some minor bugz but when THEY release their games, they work or they beta test them until they are ready for release. they don't just push out a game to grab some bux. I don't want to single out the guys who actually write the code, make the models, etc, it's the pussies in head office who have no clue, all they are concerned is with is the bottom line, but couldn't you guyz have bitched to them, i mean you guyz do love your work right?and these games are your own creations/babies, so speak up, TELL them you're not ready for release...after all this reflects badly on you.
Meanwhile, I will hold onto this game, because i do want to play it(and i can't get my money back and there isn't anything i want to trade this in for right now anyway). You Euros have put out some really inventive games. Sadly i wish it was playable on my system (...maybe you could send me one of the systems you guyz tested this game on)
*sitting here with my fingers and toes crossed hoping the rumored patch will alleviate my pain*
disillusioned and distraughtly yours
