Exclamation ** To Devs: An Idea for Version 1.0 to CE Upgrades...

If DC were to offer a patch that would upgrade version 1.0 to the new CE version with all the new content, I would be willing to purchase the download of that patch. You could sell the patch for $5 or so.

This way, you make money and the people who originally purchased the game in 2005 won't feel like they are getting ripped off and they won't have to send in their CDs to swap the old for the new. It will save time and make you money.

    Please allow this option. Thanks.

I'm bumping this because I really don't feel I should have to purchase the game again since I bought it the first time. Sending stuff in for exchange is such a hassle when you could just purchase a digital download patch online.

I'll bump this as well; it sure would be a lot more fair than what has happened up to now.

If such a patch would exist what would prevent you from giving it to anyone for free? Thought about that?
I still hope for an unofficial patch.

Yes, I thought about that and DC can work that out with key codes that can be verified over the internet.

If you go that route, why not download the whole CE?!??!?

And yes, thats a good reason why the CE should be free.

I've already argued on behalf of this sentiment, and made efforts to delineate the constituent fallacy of disallowing a more expedient/economical alternative to further investing in a game which many of us *should* already own.

    A few salient examples:

No one should need stoop to such simpering lengths.

When the CE is released, they should just patch DL *classic* up to CE and be done with it!

Anyone already inclined to steal it will not be stymied by the prospect of a CE, and DC's marketing campaign for the CE isn't likely to hook anyone who wasn't already suckered the first time around, leaving only a scant few naifs(read: impulse buyers) who are ill-equipped to appreciate a destinction between the two versions anyway(everyone else just won't give a f*ck either way).

As sobering as it may be, sentiment has devolved to a point where the only way to broaden DL's market with the pending CE iteration is through positive citation, and the only way to do that is to appease the vociferous grognards(us) by appealing to our sense of entitlement via a massive(free) content update(that it fell upon members of the user-community to furnish their own make-shift patch by mandate of proprietary indolence was NOT exactly a deft PR move either).
I won't condascend to argue the veracity of marketing paradigms, but suffice it to say that all such studies enlist the equivocal parsing of selective sampling, as irrefutable proposition in the service of bias(epistomological/political/material/etc) - it is their primary function.

Aside from that, If Dungeon Lords CE was to be perceived as an unknown quantity, or a substantive ammendment to an esteemed product, conventional wisdom would incline me to agree.

Otherwise there is really no(plausible) market for the CE beyond spurned veterans of the original(notwithstanding the scant few impulse buyers whose predilections are - by definition - capriciously devoid of an explicit advertising nexus), and begs the question as to who exactly the CE is being marketed to?

Incipient gamers who were not privy to it's first incarnation(and consequent censure populi)?

If so, that's a pretty desperate gambit.

Is there even evidence that a marketing campaign exists for the CE?

In the case of a CE, I can't help but feel it is safer to infer that no quantity of 'marketing' can reconcile the grievious injury reaped by word of mouth and a myopia of PR neglect.

Presuming that the cited release date for the CE holds(or falls within an approximate interval), I agree that any magnanimous gesture(at this belated stage) would likely be wasted on their bottom line... as it pertains to DL.

But for the respective companies instrumental in this joint debacle, I have supreme confidence that, unless promptly redressed, the cultivated legacy(read: stigma) of DL will hang as an aegis anathema over all future commercial ventures...

... and a more damning indictment I cannot conceive.

Even though there was some talk earlier in the forums of some consideration of providing the CE to 1.0 owners by some means, I suspect that HP/DC will wait a while to see how many buy the CE before making such an offer.

And I don't really think they'll make such an offer, but it's a nice idea to dream of getting the game we orginally paid for.
